Quite a mixture of temperatures for today. It won't be the worst conditions we have witnessed for AFL in Ballarat, and without too much rain on the radar it should make for a great day of footy! Let's play!
Where to Attack?
Whilst not a huge surprise given some of their performances, West Coast has given up above average scores to opposition forwards this year. As 4 goal underdogs today to the Power, it is difficult to see this changing this week and is worth considering. At the other end of the spectrum, it is the Dockers who are giving up the lowest average scores to forwards of the six teams in action today.
Based on the data through the early rounds, it may be worth keeping an eye on the ruck battle in Adelaide in the twilight game. It isn't he strongest trend of the year, however on a slate that lacks a dominant ruck option, it may be worth considering if putting together multiple teams.
Game Script – Port Forwards
VALUE PLAYS
Stefan Martin ($7,790) comes in for his first game of the season courtesy of a Tim English hamstring injury suffered at training. While the data above does trend towards taing a Port/Eagles ruck, the situational spot of Marting coming in here at a low salary commands my attention in a wide open list of ruckman for the day.
Steven Motlop ($7,930) is probably lucky to keep his spot ahead of Karl Amon. With that being said, he is coming off his best score of the season last week and with Port heavy favourites today and the data pointing to the Eagles allowing scores to opposition forwards, Motlop looks to be a great way to save some salary.
Darcy Tucker ($8,100) looks to be solid value given his recent averages are skewed by being subbed out in round 3. He had 13 disposals in 34% game time before being subbed off due to concussion, and looked comfortable playing in the middle. Back into the team this week after being an unused sub last week should see a solid output from Tucker to justify taking on his salary.
MID-PRICED PLAYS
Zak Butters ($13,630) is one player that stands out below $14,000. He was prolific last week with 32 touches and a goal, and although some of his midfield time will be absorbed by Ollie Wines he should still see a high scoring output here in what should be a Port Adelaide victory.
Patrick Cripps ($13,430) comes with an element of risk this week given his hamstring issue, however needs to be considered again with a lower salary than anticipated. Needs to be considered here, and don't be put off by his average score this year looking a little low based on his first quarter hammy vs Gold Coast. Needs to be considered if confirmed to play.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Sam Docherty ($14,450) looks to be worthy of consideration at this salary. Four of five scores this season of 95 or above, with a top of 138. Look for Docherty to be used regularly out of the defensive half on Optus Stadium tonight. Looks a solid investment at the price.
