There is not real marquee match of the day, however Melbourne will face a danger game as they travel to Alice Springs to face Port Adelaide in an attempt to remain in touch with the minor premiership. Betting Odds
Hawthorn vs West Coast at the MCG (HAW -32.5, Total 158.5)
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide at TIO Treagar Park (MEL -9.5, Total 154.5)
Essendon vs Gold Coast at MARVEL Oval (GCS -0.5, Total 172.5)
Weather
Melbourne
Alice Springs
There is significant rain expected in Melbourne, with potential thunderstorms during the afternoon as Hawthorn host West Coast at the MCG. Monitor the weather ocnditions for this game and if the rain hits be careful loading up on key forwards or outside players. The game at Marvel will be protected with the roof over head and Alice Springs could be a bit dewy, but overall the weather should not be a major concern.
Where to Attack?
Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.
The Hawks have been the best team in the league to target all season through the midfield. They have given up 88 points per player, and a massive 112 points per player when you isolate the top three scorers, which is a premium priced player dream. The only difference is on this slate they play West Coast who are sitting second last and have been giving up the third most points to midfielders this year. The Hawks are over 5 goal favourites and should dominate this game, so it might be a case of just loading up the Hawthorn midfielders on this slate.
The Hawks forwards would be licking their chops for this matchup. They are fresh off an absolute fill up last week against the Crows and now they face the Eagles who have given up the most points to the position this season at over 9 points per player above the league average. The Hawks are over 5 goal favourites, which makes this a prime spot for their forwards to hit the scoreboard.
Game Script – Port Adelaide backs, Hawthorn midfielders and forwards.
VALUE PLAY
Xavier O’Neill ($6,640) gets another run at the senior side this week after sustained form in the WAFL. The Eagles are starting to look to the future and are giving some of the youngsters opportunity through their natural position in the midfield in recent weeks. O’Neill should assume Trew’s role from last week and get around 40% of the centre bounces and some time on the wings. Xavier has shown potential and had 73 point game earlier this year, which would be significant value at this price point.
MID-PRICED PLAYS
Connor Nash ($9,810) has started to show the form everyone was looking for in recent games after getting plenty of opportunity through the midfield this season. Last week was his best game for the year posting a 93 point fantasy score and this week he comes into one of the best matchups in the league for midfielders and forwards.
Dan Houston ($12,850) is a player with huge upside as shown this year with a 150 point game earlier in the season and various other 120+/130+ games. This week he will draw the best matchup in the league for defenders against Melbourne who have conceded over 9 points per player above league average to the position according to our data tools. This is a matchup made in heaven for Port Adelaide defenders and outside players, as they love to over possess the football in the half back line.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Dylan Moore ($13,580) was moved into the midfield more last week, attending 55% of their centre bounces, and it provided incredible results posting a massive 129 fantasy points. This week he draws an even better matchup against the Eagles both in the midfield and when he is playing up forward.
Karl Amon ($13,070) has had a couple of down weeks, but this week he should benefit from the matchup with the Demons who concede a large number of uncontested possessions across the half back line. Amon loves to push back from the wing into this space and the Power love to possess the ball in this area. I will be linking up Amon and Houston with other Port backs, especially value options on this slate.
