Gold Coast
We can expect perfect football conditions on the Gold Coast and in Adelaide for this Saturday’s slate of games, while as always we don’t have to worry about the whether for the games at Marvel Stadium. Melbourne does have a slight forecast for showers, however these are for the morning and the MCG has the best drainage of any ground in Australia so I would not be letting this dictate any of my fantasy decisions for that matchup!
Where to Attack?
Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.
All season St Kilda have continued to give up points to defenders conceding 69 per player, which is just under 5 points per game above the league average. If this game was in Western Australia I would be inclined to load up on the Fremantle defenders, but in an expected close game at the speedy Marvel stadium I have given some pause to this strategy. As you can see above the Magpies backs could also be in play against North, along with any Collingwood player to be honest, but the sneaky play will be to roster the North defenders in a belting as they attempt to hold onto possession and reduce the Collingwood scoring.
We have been harping on the same story for weeks now when it comes to teams against North Melbourne, but the problem is it is working and will continued to do so. That story is stacking up midfielders and forwards for any team squaring off against North. On this slate Collingwood are near 10 goal favourites and it is no surprise that the team sitting dead last on the ladder has given up the second most fantasy points to midfielders and forwards this season.
Game Script – Collingwood midfielders and forwards
VALUE PLAYS
Callum Coleman-Jones ($8,000) comes in for the first time since Round 9 with Tristan Xerri out to injury. Coleman-Jones was promised ruck time in the lure to come over to North Melbourne and during the games he played has been given 30-40% of the centre bounces. All season, North have appeared determined to split the time in the ruck with Goldstein and his other partner, and given Coleman-Jones has been on fire in the VFL and the fact that the season is coming to an end and they really need to see what they have here with Callum, I am sensing he will get a big chance at it. He already posted a 78 point game earlier in season, which would be just under 10x return at his price point.
Mason Cox ($7,730) is essentially splitting the ruck duties with Darcy Cameron right now, attending just under 50% of the centre bounces. This has resulted in 21 and 24 hit outs from his last two games and an average of 73 points per game from his last three. What supercharges this matchup is the fact that the Magpies are over 10 goal favourites so when Cox is resting forward he will have plenty of opportunity to add to his score with a few goals. It was only three weeks ago that we saw the massive upside that Cox can bring at this price point when he posted huge 101 fantasy point game.
MID-PRICED PLAYS
Nick Daicos ($12,130) is really hitting his strides, both with his on ground play and his fantasy output. Over his last four games he has posted scores of 117, 114, and 109. What I love about him is he has a massive nose for the uncontested mark and kick across the half back line and up through the ground. This week’s matchup against North Melbourne should suit his game style down to a tee with the expected blow out meaning the air will be out of the game and there will be plenty of time to fill up on uncontested possessions.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jack Crisp ($14,990) should see boost in midfield time with Jordan De Goey not in the line-up this week. De Goey attended 51% of the Magpies centre bounces last week, and these will likely be soaked up across the remainder of the Collingwood midfield. Crisp has been in a bit of a slump form a fantasy output perspective with his last two games coming in well under 100 points, however this means we can snap up his price at sub $15k and this is a matchup where he should return to his form that saw a run of 8 straight 100+ point games.
Touk Miller ($15,690) draws what has historically been an elite matchup for inside midfielders against the Tigers this week. In addition, he has been on fire fantasy wise with three scores of 127+ from his last four games. Anytime you can grab Touk at a sub $16k price range in a positive matchup you have to do it give his major upside.
