Weather
Melbourne
The weather looks perfect for football this Thursday evening in Melbourne! I wouldn’t expect any impact on fantasy scoring.
Where to Attack?
Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars.
Defenders continue to fill up on fantasy scoring against the defending premiers this season. As we have discussed all season this isn’t a new trend and we saw similar last year. It is primarily driven by the way the Demons look to structure up with one behind the ball and allowing possessions across the back line, and the fact the ball typically spends a lot of time in their forward line. At over 9 points per player above league average they are giving up almost 6 points per defender more then the second highest team, which is an incredibly large gap. Stack up Brisbane backs and move on.
Brisbane have ever so sneakily been giving up points to midfielders this season despite their team success. This will suit the Demons who have accumulated the fourth most disposals in 2022.
Game Script – Brisbane defenders, Melbourne midfielders
VALUE PLAYS
Keidan Coleman ($9,510) has really displayed a bigger ceiling this season with his role across half back. Two of his last four games have been 94+ points which is right on that 10x return you want to see from value plays. As noted above this is by far the best matchup in the league for defenders and I will be locking in Brisbane back stacks across all teams. If you want to save even more money for your roster builds Brandon Starcevich and Harris Andrews are both solid options as well.
Cam Rayner ($9,270) has been seeing consistent minutes through the midfield in recent weeks, including attending just under 50% of the Lions centre bounces in two of his last three games. This increased role has resulted in a nice scoring boost with three of his last four games at 75+ points, including an 81 point game from his last outing against the Saints.
MID-PRICED PLAYS
Luke Jackson ($11,880) will have another week as the number one ruck with Max Gawn out. This should be an interesting contests between Jackson and McInerney at similar price points. Both have the capability of solid scores with ceiling games over 100 this season. I will lean into the talent of Jackson, however, who isn’t priced for a number one role and returned a solid 82 points last game.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Daniel Rich ($13,660) is a lock and load play for me on this slate. As mentioned several times already it is a dream matchup for half backs and with Zorko out again this week the Lions will be looking to have the ball in Rich’s hands coming out of half back all night. He has massive upside with two of his last 4 games topping the 114 point mark. Link him up with cheap Lion backs.
Clayton Oliver ($17,380) Melbourne should get on top in the fantasy scoring battle through the midfield and Oliver is the safest option. Fresh off a 146 point outing against the Magpies and a 151 point game four games ago against North he is in elite ball winning form right now. His price point is the highest on the slate, however I think there is enough value to make this work.
