Richmond vs Carlton at MCG (Richmond -2.5, 154.5 points) - Bet now at Ladbrokes!

Weather

Melbourne

Significant rainfall expected during the morning and afternoon. By the time nightfall comes it should have passed through and the drainage the MCG should prevent the ground from being too wet. I would keep an eye on the conditions right up until the bounce but at this stage I wouldn’t let it impact fantasy selection decisions.

Where to Attack?

Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars.

AFL Data Tools

The only position that stands out to attack is backs against the Tigers, however similar to last week I think we can look at the specific stats and note that Richmond concede the sixth most disposals this season while Carlton rack up the most in the league. Specifically it is uncontested possessions that cause the biggest trouble for the Tigers, and the Blues love these so I would be looking for a combination of outside players across half back for the Blues and any type of Carlton midfielder as they should rack up the disposals resulting in big fantasy scores in this matchup.

AFL Data Tools

As noted above, the Tigers are giving up the fifth most points to defenders this year at over 2 points per player above league average.

Game Script – Carlton backs and mids

VALUE PLAYS

Hugo Ralphsmith (DS $6,740)

Ralphsmith is a clear value play on this single game slate. With not many obvious plays on offer Ralphsmith has posted 60+ points in five of his last six games. This is almost a free square to help fit in the premium midfielders from the Blues.

MID-PRICED PLAYS

Toby Nankervis (DS $12,960)

Nank should flourish in this matchup against youngster Sam De Koning. Nankervis has been averaging just under 90 points per game this season, but this week he will get the ruck position all to himself with Soldo out of the lineup. That role increase should be big enough to boost his score into the 100 point range in this matchup.

Jack Graham (DS $11,690)

Jack Graham is getting right back through the midfield now and this role will likely be boosted by the fact that Dustin Martin is out again. In three of the last four weeks in this role he has gone for 96 points for better, which on a single game slate is a fair return at this price point.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Sam Walsh (DS $15,450)

Walsh has been consistent as ever posting no score under 91 from his last 10 games and just 4 of them have been under 100. Three of his last four games have been 110+, which shows he has the upside for a single game GPP and this week should be one of the best matchups he will see with the Tigers giving up high numbers of possessions and uncontested possessions, which suits his game style.

Sam Docherty (DS $15,700)

Doc is right back into his form from a few years ago before the injury and health concerns hit. What is most impressive is that this time round he is doing it as part of a winning team, where the possessions are important and damaging. From his last 7 games he has just one under 100 points and five of the games have been 114+, showing huge upside. Similar to Walsh this should be an elite matchup for Docherty and I will be linking him up with other Blues backs, likely value plays.
