Sydney vs Richmond at SCG (SYD -10.5, 169.5)
Weather
Absolute pristine conditions for football this Friday night, there should be no impact on the fantasy scoring as a result of the weather.
Where to Attack?
The only real position that stands out to target on this slate is the midfield, where the Tigers have given up almost 4 points per player above league average. That said, it is clear that Richmond give up a heavy amount of possessions (third most in the league) and these are specifically in the way of uncontested possessions where they give up the most in the league. I will be looking to target Sydney players who pickup touches on the outside in this matchup.
Game Script – Sydney backs and midfielders
VALUE PLAYS
Braeden Campbell ($7,830) is finally getting a real opportunity this week with Josh Kennedy out. He came on last week and immediately provided line breaking dash that Kennedy couldn’t provide on the wing and while doing this racked up 53 fantasy points in just 40% game time. I love this matchup for him with Richmond giving up the most uncontested possessions in the league this season.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Peter Ladhams ($9.900) will take over the sole rucking job again as Hickey goes down with another injury. We all saw what happened when he was in this role earlier in the season, posting three straight games of 112, 107 and 97. His price has come down nicely to this mid range points well after a stretch of average games after Hickey returned and Ladhams wasn’t spending as much time rucking. The Tigers have historically given up a lot points to rucks, despite the fact they are right on league average this year for points conceded to the position.
Nick Blakey ($12,140) appears to have assumed sole kick-in duties in recent week, taking all but one in the Swans loss to the Blue last Friday night. This has resulted in a three-game stretch of 98, 93, and 95 point games. He doesn’t necessarily have the ceiling you might like at this price, but in a single game slate he will likely be the highest scoring back for the Swans.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Callum Mills ($17,240) has really hit ultimate pig status in recent weeks. In three of his last 5 games he has posted 162, 131 and 156. This week he draws the Tigers who have never been known to put any dedicated defensive attention into opposition midfielders and have given up almost 4 points per player above league average to the position this season. Mills price is all the way up there, but in my opinion this is a ceiling type matchup for him and there are value options to make the play viable.
