Richmond vs Melbourne (bookmakers’ total 170.5, line Richmond -15.5)
Where to Attack
This is an interesting game as these two teams are bottom two in fantasy points scored this season and are 1 and 2 for points conceded. As a result there will be several avenues that are open to attack.
The most prominent angle to attack in the entire league currently is the backline against the Tigers. Through five rounds they have given up 82 points per player to defenders, which is an incredible 10 points per player more than the next highest.
The next rule to abide by is never roster rucks against Max Gawn. Melbourne have conceded just 51 points per game to opposition number 1 rucks this season, the lowest mark in the league.
VALUE PLAYS
Michael Hibberd (DS $8,340, MB $5,400) has seen his fantasy points per game plummet since his 2017 where he was an All-Australian rebounding defender. He still offers an upside of around the 80 point mark and as mentioned above on this slate he has an elite matchup against the Tigers who give up an obscene amount of points to defenders.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Shane Edwards (DS $10,370, MB $6,200) could be a sneaky play on this slate. With the run of injuries the Tigers have recently had Edwards has been playing further up the ground and then last week against Sydney he was moved onto half back. As we all know, there is no easier place to rack up disposals than the half back flank and Edwards didn't disappoint collecting 28 possessions. If this role continues he should return value at this price point.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Christian Salem (DS $13,550, MB $7,800) benefits from the matchup as discussed for Michael Hibberd above. Salem has showed a GPP winning ceiling posting two scores over 110 fantasy points. He also makes for a solid play to link with Hibberd as the two players chip the ball to each other.
Max Gawn (DS $14,270, MB $9,300) will be a lock and load play for me on this slate. Nankervis has been a plus matchup dating back to last year and it has become literally impossible to play a ruck against Gawn. As mentioned above he is holding opposition rucks to just 51 points per game and Braydon Preuss is not playing this week to take ruck contests off Gawn.
Make sure you take a look at the AFL Resources page to help fill out the rest of your fantasy teams for Tuesday night. If you're after a bit of guidance then check out our Draftstars team below that we'll be entering in the huge AFL $50,000+ Tigers v Demons contest!
