UCL 2018/19 DFS Lineup Tips: Round of 16
There’s four huge UEFA Champions League fixture set to play out over the next two days that are guaranteed to be a terrific watch. We’re now in the Round of 16, which means there’s only Europe’s biggest and best teams left in the tournament fighting it out for the most prestigious trophy in club world football.
The four UCL games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday morning include:
Lyon vs Barcelona (Wednesday 7am AEDT)
Liverpool vs Bayern Munich (Wednesday 7am AEDT)
Schalke vs Manchester City (Thursday 7am AEDT)
Atletico Madrid vs Juventus (Thursday 7am AEDT)
As you’d expect, there are some huge DFS contests being offered for this week’s action. DraftKings are hosting a massive $35,000 contest, while Draftstars are hosting their own $1,000 contest.
Below, we’ve provided our best team for the 35K DraftKings contest that kicks off on Wednesday morning at 7am (AEDT).
Goalkeeper
The number one thing you need to think about here is who’s most likely going to keep a clean sheet. Of these four games, we believe the best selection available is:
M. Ter Stegen (BAR $5,400) – Of all teams we see Barcelona as the most likely to keep a clean sheet. While Lyon are more than capable of a goal or two at home, we do see Ter Stegen as the best option between the sticks.
Defenders
When selecting defenders you’re pretty much going in with same mindset as when selecting goalkeepers. Meaning you primarily just want players that are going to keep a clean sheet, with secondary thought given to those who can pick up assists or the odd goal.
Our best defensive picks for this slate are:
Jordi Alba (BAR $5,600) – For the same reasons mentioned above, we’ve gone with Jordi Alba. We expect Barca to keep their opponents to one goal maximum, with great potential of a clean sheet.
Andy Robertson (LIV $4,800) – Robertson has been Liverpool’s best full back all season and was recently named the best left back in the world by FourFourTwo. We love his potential output at such a cheap price.
B. Mendy (MCI $5,900) – There’s still no word on whether or not Mendy will line up for City on Thursday morning. If he’s in pick him, if not then go for another City full back.
Midfielders/Forwards
Most of the best midfield or forward options at DraftKings are dual position, meaning you can select them in either spot, which is why we’ve opted to group them together here.
Our midfield/forward picks for this slate are:
Ivan Rakitic (BAR $5,800) – Rakitic is coming off one of his better performances for Barca last time out. He’s really neatly priced for a midfielder that should see a lot of the ball on Wednesday morning.
R. Bentancur (JUV $3,200) – There’s quite a few cheap Juventus midfielders that could be lining up for the final spot in their side. Make sure you get the right one to leave plenty of cash to spend elsewhere.
L. Messi (BAR $11,200) – Doesn’t really need any introduction, does he? If you can afford him, put him in.
S. Mane (LIV $8,100) – Mane has been finding the net for Liverpool lately and will test Bayern with his blistering pace on Wednesday. We like his value and potential output here.
