Fantasy Horse Racing Tips: Saturday March 16th 2019
Melbourne and Sydney once again have the spotlight of the racing world on them this weekend. Flemington hosts the inaugural running of the $5 Million All Star Mile whilst at Rosehill it is Day 1 of the Golden Slipper Carnival featuring a plethora of black type races likely to be run on a wet track.
SportChamps is the leading provider of fantasy horse racing tournaments and they offer a range of tournaments to suit all budgets. Their major tournaments are run on a Saturday with rebuy and no-rebuy options across the major metropolitan venues. For those not willing to spend a whole day in a big contest, they run consistent hour-long contests across a range of races. They also offer free to enter games which can be a great way to try the site out with no financial risk.
Moneyball and TopBetta also offer a smaller suite of contests but their rule variations and smaller fields mean the options are plenty for those wanting to play tournaments and we recommend you try out the different sites and options to find out which ones work for you.
We can kick off the day at Flemington in Race 2 with the unbeaten Jumbo Ozaki from the Phillip Stokes yard. He has looked visually impressive in both wins to date and the times have measured up. He should be able to find a spot on speed here and be mighty hard to run down. He is currently $2.60 with Sportsbet but you may get better come raceday.
Race 4 at Flemington is for the 3yo fillies down the straight. The scratching of early favourite Schilldora opens up this race and the Clinton McDonald trained Causeway Girl appeals as a good play. She was narrowly beaten in a better race than this last start over this track and distance back in the Spring and is unbeaten fresh which she is for this contest. Her recent jump out was good where she had the better of last weeks winner Anjana. The small concern is the inside barrier but she has the services of Damien Oliver who rides the straight well. She is currently $6.00 with Pointsbet.
Up to Sydney and Race 6 at Rosehill is for the stayers over 2000m with many of these on a Sydney Cup path. Red Cardinal won a similar race to this last start and will get the wet conditions that he enjoys. Kerrin McEvoy takes over in the saddle and providing horses can make ground down the outside he should be very hard to hold out. He is currently $8.00 with Neds.
Race 7 at Flemington is for the older sprinters over 1400m. Tassie champ Hellova Street is coming off a successful carnival back in Tasmania and finds a winnable race here. He is drawn wide but there doesn't look to be a huge amount of pressure here so should be able to find his way to the top or outside the leader easily enough. He is twice a winner over this track and distance and will be tough to get past. He is currently $7.00 with Sportsbet. His main danger looks to be Zebulon who arguably should have won last start in a similar race. He is drawn to receive a soft run just off the speed here and providing he gets the luck when needed he should be hard to hold out. He is backable too at $5.50 with BetEasy.
Race 7 at Rosehill is the feature event of the day the Group 1 Coolmore Classic for the fillies and mares. A capacity field will face the starter and it is a wide open betting race with the Chris Waller trained I Am Serious the current favourite and she looks top pick. Her trials prior to her first up run were excellent against some top class horses and then she performed admirably first up just going down in a key lead up to this race. The rise in trip from 1300m to 1500m looks ideal and the expected wet weather plays right into her hands. She is drawn wide for James McDonald but I wouldn't expect that to be any issue should the rain hit. She is currently $5.50 with Pointsbet.
The main event of the day is Race 8 at Flemington, the All Star Mile. There are many different formlines meeting here with three 3yos thrown into the mix. I'm going to side with one of those 3yos with Australian Guineas winner Mystic Journey looking a great play. She has been smashing the line in all runs this prep and is likely to appreciate the wide draw to give her ample room. There looks to be sufficient pressure in the race to enable her to sweep home with her trademark finish. She looks a great play at $3.90 with Neds and may even be longer come jump time. Pohutukawa is the 4th emergency so is unlikely to gain a run but if she does she looks a great hope at a big price. She has raced without luck in two runs this prep and has a liking for wet ground. She is currently $16 with BetEasy.
