Fantasy Horse Racing Tips: Saturday January 26th 2019
Racing returns to Caulfield on Saturday for the running of the two divisions of the Blue Diamond Preview. Both these races provide plenty of intrigue and a great pointer to next months Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. For punters they are tough races as there are many unraced horses and those that have raced have only had a limited amount of starts and can improve significantly from one run to the next. There are better options around the country for tournament players.
SportChamps is the leading provider of fantasy horse racing tournaments and they offer a range of tournaments to suit all budgets. Tomorrow they are offering a Saturday Metro Only tournament which is just a $5 buyin but has a whopping $10,000 guaranteed prize pool. This is a great tournament for players of all bankrolls but especially for those trying to build their bank or who prefer to play the smaller buyinss. For those not willing to spend a whole day in a big contest, they run consistent hour-long contests across a range of races. They also offer free to enter games which can be a great way to try the site out with no financial risk.
Moneyball and TopBetta also offer a smaller suite of contests but their rule variations and smaller fields mean the options are plenty for those wanting to play tournaments and we recommend you try out the different sites and options to find out which ones work for you.
Race 1 at Caulfield features a short priced favourite who should be winning. Crack The Code was very impressive when winning first up at Moonee Valley and finds a race here on her home track that doesn't look any tougher. She should be able to settle just off the speed and be too classy for her opposition over the concluding stages. She looks a good bank builder early in the day and is currently $1.85 with BetEasy.
Race 3 on the card is the low grade race for the day but the Team Hawkes trained Groundbreak was a very impressive winner at the this track last start after being heavily backed. He should be able to find a great spot just off the speed and be hard to hold out at the business end. He is currently $2.60 with Sportsbet. Those looking for a bit of value could do worse than have something on Hunamosa. He is racing well and is the leader in the race. Whilst he was beaten convincingly by Groundbreak last start should he receive a good run in front then he can be hard to run down and represents some value at $19 with Pointsbet.
Race 6 sees yet another short priced favourite in the Darren Weir trained Social Spin. He was slowly away before being too good in the straight last start at Flemington. He faces a sharp rise in weight here and an awkward barrier. Given these factors I'm happy to gamble on Goldifox who comes off a dominant win in a Maiden at Geelong where she ran good time. She should be able to sit right on the speed and can perhaps put a margin on the favourite that he can't run down. She is currently $4.70 with Neds.
The last race on the card is the Listed John Dillon Stakes over 1400m. There looks to be good speed in this race with Theanswermyfriend and Arbeitsam both liking to run along in front. Manolo Blahniq was a winner of a similar race to this at Flemington last start when he sat wide and was still too strong. He draws inside this time so should receive a soft run and should he get the luck when needed he can finish all over the top of them. He is a course and distance winner so the setup should hold no concerns for him. He is currently $4.20 with Neds.
The Listed Carrington Stakes over 1400m is the feature event at Randwick on Saturday and the race is headlined by fan favourite Tom Melbourne. Whilst I would advise against backing Tom for the win he is always a great option for the place and to include in exotics. Despite there only being 10 runners in the race there appears to be good speed with punters having to sort out the race fit horses against the classier resumers. The Chris Waller trained Endless Drama looks a good play here and can find a great spot just off the leaders. He has raced well without winning in both his first up performances since joining the Waller stable and comes off a very nice trial win 11 days ago. He is a course and distance winner and its hard to see him not being in the finish. He is currently $4.60 with Sportsbet.
