2018 AFL Grand Final: Player Prop Bets
There’s just one game left in what has been an exciting season of football. On Saturday, West Coast will take on Collingwood in the 2018 AFL Grand Final. As usual, we’ve analysed all the important numbers and come up with our best AFL player prop bets. Check out our Grand Final edition below.
Mason Cox (Collingwood)
The first of our Grand Final prop bets isn’t going to please our Collingwood supporters in the slightest. We’re predicting big Mason Cox, the hero from the Preliminary Final, to have a quiet(er) day at the office.
As you’d expect from an American who’s only been playing the game for 4 years, Cox’s form has been up and down this season. Fantasy wise, he’s had plenty of quiet games (14x <65 points scored) and not too many big games (3x >80 points scored) to finish with a season average of 58.
Cox missed the only time the Magpies met the Eagles during the season, however, he was in the team for the Qualifying Final at Optus Stadium. That day, Cox was held to just 5 disposals, 2 marks and season-low 18 fantasy points. He was completely outclassed by the Eagles defence, particularly Jeremy McGovern, who was able to continually drift in and take intercepts marks. Unfortunately for Pies fans, we’re expecting much of the same on Saturday.
TIP: Mason Cox Fantasy Points UNDER (60.5) - $1.88 at Pointsbet
Josh Kennedy (West Coast)
Our second play of the day is on Eagles superstar forward Josh Kennedy to eclipse his fantasy overs. Kennedy is one of the most prolific key forwards in the game and is a tough cover for even the best defenders in the league, which will be a huge concern for Magpie coach Nathan Buckley.
Yes, we’re aware that Kennedy had a quiet(ish) game in the Eagles Qualifying Final win over the Magpies just 3 weeks ago, managing 2 goals from his 12 possessions. However, that was Kennedy’s first game back from a long lay-off and he STILL managed to accumulate 76 fantasy points (enough to cover this weekend’s line).
Simply put, Collingwood don’t have anyone who can nullify Kennedy’s impact over 4 quarters and he’s bound to get off the leash at some point. Their defence has struggled to contain key forwards all season, which will have Kennedy licking his lips.
TIP: Josh Kennedy Fantasy Points OVER (73.5) - $1.88 at Pointsbet
Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood)
Our final player prop for the Grand Final is on Steele Sidebottom to fall short of his fantasy line. Steele has had a sensational 2018 season, highlighted by his second place finish in the Brownlow Medal count on Monday night. However, we smell a Mark Hutchings tag coming his way at around 2:30pm on Saturday.
The Eagles respect Sidebottom’s influence so much that they’ve tagged him for the full 4 quarters in each of their last 3 matches against the Magpies. In fact, in 2017 the Eagles were the only team in the league to send someone to Sidebottom and when you look at the way Sidebottom has performed in these 3 games (scores of 71, 48, 98), it’s safe to assume they’re going to go at him again.
TIP: Steele Sidebottom Fantasy Points UNDER (108.5) - $1.70 at Pointsbet
