2018 AFL Chalk, Chance or Chump: Round 1 Richmond vs Carlton
Our good friends at PlayON have ramped up their offerings for the upcoming 2018 AFL Season, and to celebrate, we’ll be offering one (sometimes two) special Chalk, Chance or Chump previews for the weekly marquee game! This week we’ll be taking a look at the season opening Richmond vs Carlton game from the MCG on Thursday night.
Check out some of the major tournaments that can be entered at PlayON on Thursday night below!
Chalk: Dustin Martin (Richmond)
No surprises here, the reigning Brownlow medallist is primed for another big season this year and has a dominant record against the Blues. In Round 1 last season, Martin racked up 33 touches, kicked 4 goals and accumulated a whopping 139 fantasy points. Martin followed it up with a solid performance in Round 14, racking up 30 disposals and 96 fantasy points. Martin was the 8th ranked fantasy scorer in 2017, averaging 113.6 points per game and will likely be somewhere around that mark again.
Chance: Caleb Marchbank (Carlton)
We really like Marchbank here. He is the 6th highest priced Defender in Thursday night’s game but two of the top guys could miss the game as Sam Docherty has already been ruled out and Bachar Houli is in doubt. Docherty and the departed Bryce Gibbs combined to average 53 disposals per game off the half back flank last season, even if ten of those went the direction of Marchbank, who should have a much more involved role without the two stars, he’ll rack up over 25 touches on last years averages.
Chump: Dion Prestia (Richmond)
Comes into the game under a cloud of injury so might not even be out there on Thursday night. Wasn’t impressive in the slightest in the two teams last clash in Round 14 last season, accumulating just 53 points in the Tigers win. Even if he does play, it could be in a limited role, so for the hefty $13.3 million price tag, we’d steer clear here.
