Weather
Adelaide – Mostly sunny, 22 degrees.
Melbourne – Sunny, 21 degrees.
Perfect conditions for this slate, with both Adelaide and Melbourne expecting warm, sunny weather. Outside runners are definitely in play today, while contested bulls may struggle.
Where To Attack?
Arguably the most prevalent trends in AFL DFS this year has been the performance of defenders against St Kilda. Under Ross Lyon the Saints have sat back and allowed their opposition to possess the ball, which has led to massive numbers for backs. This has applied to both premium and value players in DFS, so Adelaide backs will be popular today.
The Saints have also given up the most points in the midfield, again due to their defensive style of play. Onballers that hunt the outside ball have been most successful against St Kilda, so players like Soligo and Dawson should rack it up on Sunday afternoon.
Game Script – Adelaide stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Bobby Hill (DS $6,720) – Based on recent output, this may seem like an obscure selection, but bear with me. Given that this is a two-game slate, there are hardly any bankable value options so we have to get creative and I believe Hill can produce an 8-10x value game here. The Collingwood livewire has produced scores of 69 and 65 already this season, and he should be motivated to perform in a revenge game against his former side.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Brodie Smith (DS $10,650) is priced very attractively considering the smash spot that he finds himself in. As Adelaide’s designated kicker down back, Smith should be given plenty of room to move by the defensive Saints, so a 100+ score is entirely possible. Considering Smith averages 76 points anyway, there is little risk in this pick.
Chayce Jones (DS $8,980) has come into his own this year for Adelaide, living up to the hype that he generated as a draftee. The smooth moving Crow has averaged 68 DFS points, but more importantly he has scored 108, 90 and 85 in home games. Given that his match is being played at Adelaide Oval, and that Jones should benefit from the data trends, you can expect another 80+ score here.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jordan Dawson (DS $15,760) is having a career best season in his first year as captain, averaging 107 DFS points. The Crows skipper has moved into a full-time midfield role in 2023, complementing his outside ball with contested possessions and tackles. The data points to a huge score against the Saints, and Dawson is yet to score under 100 at home this year.
Josh Daicos (DS $13,580) is putting together a solid season for the Magpies, with an average of 93 DFS points from the first eight rounds. The lesser heralded Daicos has scored two tons at the MCG this season and if he can do that again then he is probably under-priced. I’m sure a few DFS players will be scored off by his 73 last week, but three straight 100s before that show that Daicos is a genuine premium option.
