Weather
Adelaide – Shower or two, 16 degrees.
Melbourne – Showers, 13 degrees.
There is some rain around again for Sunday’s slate, with the MCG most likely to see a noteworthy amount of precipitation. As such, DFS players should be wary if considering outside, uncontested players taking part in that encounter.
Where To Attack?
Given the wet weather forecast for Saturday, we may have to be careful in trusting the trends this weekend.
However, no such concerns surround the twilight game at Marvel Stadium, which shapes up as a fantasy scoring fest. Both teams involved in this game, North Melbourne and St Kilda, have conceded the most fantasy points across the ground this season, so stacking this game appears to be a low-risk strategy.
Outside of a Marvel stack, Essendon rucks are looking like astute selections for this slate. Port Adelaide have leaked a huge number of points to ruckmen and this trend has peaked since Brynn Teakle took over the mantle as #1 ruck. While Essendon are opting with a dual-ruck setup, I still think there is value in both Draper and Phillips.
Game Script – St Kilda stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Andrew Phillips (DS $6,760) has been a serviceable second ruck for Essendon this year, providing excellent tap work. Despite averaging just 47 fantasy points, the Bombers big man should get a boost playing against Teakle this weekend, and he showed his ceiling with a 78-point game against Melbourne at Sunday’s venue.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jack Higgins (DS $9,640) – This is a highly speculative pick, but it could be a slate breaker. Higgins has always been up and down like a yo-yo, but with St Kilda heavy favourites for this clash it’s a great time for the livewire forward to show off his ceiling. Higgins has already managed scores of 114 and 90 this season, can he pull off a 10x value effort again on Sunday?
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (DS $11,140) has thrived in a distributing role this year for the Saints, averaging nearly 80 DFS points. The youngster should be able to beat that against the lowly Kangaroos this weekend, especially considering Marvel is a favourable venue for outside runners. With two tons under his belt in the opening seven rounds, another 100+ score is on the cards.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jack Steele (DS $16,800) returned to his best form last week, pumping out a 128 against the Power. It seems as though Steele’s injury woes are behind him, so this weekend’s clash shapes up as another chance for him to show off his 140+ ceiling.
Jack Ziebell (DS $13,780) has put together a consistent first seven weeks as North’s main distributor, averaging 95 DFS points. While Ziebell’s ceiling hasn’t been huge, he should see a bump with Aaron Hall out of the side, and St Kilda are the best matchup for opposition defenders by a long way in 2023.
