Weather
Gold Coast – Sunny, 24 degrees.
Canberra – Shower or two, 15 degrees.
Melbourne – Showers, 13 degrees.
Perth – Shower or two, 20 degrees.
Wet weather is set to play a significant role in Saturday’s DFS slate, with most of the venues expected to see some rain at some point. The Gold Coast game could be the only truly dry game, so take this into consideration when picking your line-ups.
Where To Attack?
Given the wet weather forecast for Saturday, we may have to be careful in trusting the trends this weekend.
That being said, the Richmond vs West Coast game looks like a great spot to target for midfielders, with both teams conceding plenty of points in that position. For the Tigers, Taranto and Hopper should both thrive in the wet, while the Eagles have been rotating a plethora of young players through the middle this season.
Looking further up the ground, the Richmond forwards are also in a smash spot against West Coast. The Eagles have conceded the second most points to opposition forwards, and enter this game as massive underdogs, so a Tigers forwards stack will be popular.
Game Script – Richmond forwards
VALUE PLAYS
Tanner Bruhn (DS $6,730) burnt many a season-long fantasy player at the start of this season, losing his spot in the team after several sub-par performances. However, he now presents excellent value as a sub-$7k DFS option. Bruhn had 55% CBAs last week for a score of 58 and as a good contested player who loves to tackle, I can see an improved score this week for 10x value.
Neil Erasmus (DS $6,000) – Highly touted Fremantle youngster Erasmus has been starved of opportunity this season, but now he gets his chance against the struggling Hawks. With Brodie and Johnson out of the Freo side, someone will have to step up and take the remaining CBAs, which are a great indicator of fantasy scoring. In this case, I’m backing Erasmus to fill the void and hopefully put up a 10x value score.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Wil Powell (DS $11,150) has been in great form since returning to the GC side, culminating in a score of 127 last week against Richmond. Lachie Weller won’t play this weekend due to injury, so Powell should take the majority of kick-ins and Melbourne have historically conceded plenty of points to distributing defenders. As such, a score of 90+ is on the cards for Powell.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Tim Taranto (DS $16,610) is really hitting his straps after crossing over from GWS, averaging over 124 points in his last three games. Coming up against the Eagles this weekend, the Tigers ball-winner gets one of the best matchups in the league. Furthermore, Taranto thrives in wet conditions, so there is nothing to suggest that Taranto can’t be one of the top scorers on this slate.
Caleb Serong (DS $16,300) has made huge strides this season despite Fremantle’s failings, averaging 109 DFS points. Hawthorn are a soft matchup for midfielders and Serong has not dropped below 114 at home, so lock and load him for a 120+ on Saturday night.
