Round 8 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season kicks off with another huge Friday night game this week as the Carlton host Brisbane at Marvel Stadium. This is a critical matchup for the season given the congestion in the top eight, and both sides are fighting for a top four spot this season and currently separated by just half a win.

The beauty of games at Marvel is that we don’t have to consider the impact of any weather as the roof will be shut, which is especially nice with some rain forecast for around Melbourne late in the evening.

Where To Attack?

Carlton have been one of the hardest teams in the league to play against from a fantasy perspective as they have racked up the second most disposals in the league. Meanwhile Brisbane have conceded slightly under league average in overall fantasy points but give up the equal third most disposals in the league. Based upon that I would be looking to stack up the Blues players, particularly through the back line and midfield.

VALUE PLAYS

Brodie Kemp ($8,900) It is almost impossible to ignore someone priced under $9k who has come off their first game of the season posting 107 fantasy points. Granted this score was in a massive 100 point thrashing of the West Coast Eagles, but I will be going back to the well again this week given it looks like the Blues should dominate the possession game in this matchup.

Alex Cincotta ($8,900) has played two games across half back and posted 76 and 77 fantasy points. That is still a highly valuable return at this price point in a single game matchup, and similar to Kemp above, the Blues should have the possession advantage. These scores are no huge surprise from Cincotta either, as he was posting huge numbers in the VFL before getting the call up.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Oscar McInerney ($11,560) will be going head to head for most of the game against Marc PIttonet in this matchup. Normally I would probably lean to the cheaper option in a matchup like this, however the Blues have been giving up the 7th most points to the oppositions number one ruckman this year, and the Big O has shown in the past the ability to rack up fantasy tournament winning upside scores. I love the idea of stacking up Blues teams with McInerney in the ruck.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Sam Walsh ($16,220) has been going absolutely gang busters since commencing his season three weeks ago after recovering from an injury. So far he has posted 102, 131 and 128 from his three games, and as mentioned throughout this preview the Blues should dominate the possession game in this matchup. Walsh will pickup possessions on both the inside and outside in this matchup and as a result should lock in his fourth straight 100+ point outing in a row.
