AFL

For Round 6 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season we get a rare Monday night game between two massive Victorian clubs who are both in desperate need of a win. Melbourne will host Richmond at the MCG and incredibly both teams were expected to be contending for the flag pre-season and right now both teams are sitting outside the eight. This is already a must win for both sides and we should expect a hotly contested game in front of a full house at the home of football.

Draftstars have got us covered again with a $75,000 Guaranteed Main Contest for Monday night, as well as some new AFL Star Qualifiers and a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

A beautiful Melbourne day and night expected this Monday. Perfect conditions for football.

Where To Attack?

It often can be difficult to find avenues to attack or build your game script around in single game slates. So the fact that the Tigers give up over 3 points above league average to defenders this season might not be a reason to target them on a multi game slate. But in a single you may like to look to roster Melbourne backs in this matchup.

AFL Data Tools

The Tigers have been getting handily beaten in the ruck for as long as I can remember. It is unlikely to get any better now with their first two ruck options still out with injury. The Tigers are starting youngster Samson Ryan, with Ben Miller pinch hitting, against one of the most prolific ruck combinations in AFL history. The only challenge from a daily fantasy perspective is deciding whether or not Max Gawn and/or Brodie Grundy can pay off their salary while they are sharing ruck duties.

Game Script – Melbourne backs and forwards, Richmond midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Kade Chandler ($7,800) With very limited value plays on this slate, Chandler stands out an obvious option here. He has posted over 60 points in four of his five games so far this season and showed huge upside in round one with a massive 104 point game. He has hit the scoreboard in every game so far this year and with Melbourne over 4 goal favourites should have every opportunity to do so again this week against the Tigers.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Angus Brayshaw ($12,650) has had a very slow start to the season after averaging close to 100 fantasy points in 2022. This week there has been a lot of talk coming out of the Demon’s camp about pushing Brayshaw through the midfield now to get him closer to the ball. When he was moved onto ball late last year he closed the regular season with four games over 100 points and a fifth of 93.

Trent Rivers ($9,790) has taken the number one role coming out of half back this season while also getting limited opportunity through the midfield. It has been a huge boost for his fantasy scoring this year averaging 83 points per game, and yet his price has yet to crack the $10k mark. This is a positive matchup for backs as well, as noted above, making Rivers a lock play for me on this slate.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Tim Taranto ($15,560) has been a model of consistency this season, posting over 100 fantasy points in all five game so far in 2023 with a season low of 108. That makes the fact that his price point is still under $16k a gift. Melbourne have consistently given up scores to midfielders over the past two season and this year they continue to give up the 6th highest fantasy points to the opposition's top three scoring midfielders.
