Just four teams will go to battle on Sunday, with a two-game 2023 AFL Premiership Season slate lined up.

Middling clubs Essendon and GWS will take to Marvel Stadium as they fight to stay in touch with the top eight, before West Coast hosts the Melbourne Demons in a more lopsided matchup.

Weather

Melbourne – Showers, becoming windy, 14 degrees

Perth – Mostly sunny, 25 degrees

Perfect conditions for fantasy football! The Melbourne game will be played under the roof at Marvel, while Perth will be warm and sunny.

Where To Attack?

GWS have conceded the most points to forwards this season, which isn’t a surprise as they sit 1-2. Key forwards have had a particularly good time against the Giants, but it will be interesting to see what plays out on Sunday as Essendon lack quality in this area.

In the ruck, West Coast have been easy pickings for opposing big men. Bailey Williams has allowed his opponents to dominate both the hitouts and around the ground, and I expect Brodie Grundy to capitalise on this as a sole ruck for the Demons.

Game Script – Melbourne stacks

VALUE PLAYS

Harry Rowston (DS $6,000) has been thrown into the action by GWS in his first couple of games. The young midfielder has been afforded an average of 60% CBAs, which is great news for fantasy scoring, and while he may have only averaged 37 DFS points in that time, there is plenty of scope for growth.

Greg Clark (DS $7,070) is back in the Eagles side as one of their whopping 10 changes. In his debut season, Clark chalked up five consecutive games with 60+ DFS scores, including a 110 against the Tigers. As such, $7k seems like great value for a cheap selection who should go close to 10x value.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Tom Barrass (DS $11,930) West Coast should see plenty of ball in their backline on Sunday, and Barrass is poised to share in the fantasy scoring. Jeremy McGovern has gone out of the side with injury, which bodes well for Barrass whose output improved by an average of 23 points when McGovern was missing from the line-up in 2022.

Bailey Fritsch/Kysaiah Pickett (DS $9,960/$9,700) Take your pick of the Melbourne forwards on this slate. The Demons should demolish the undermanned West Coast, and as we saw last week they can pile on the goals in a hurry. I’ve gone with Fritsch and Pickett as my preferred options – Fritsch due to his goal-hungry nature, and Pickett because he is likely to spend some time in the middle as well as forward.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Brodie Grundy (DS $14,110) has the dream ruck matchup on Sunday. Bailey Williams has conceded two 110+ scores to lesser ruckmen than Grundy, so the Dees big man could realistically go 130+ here. Grundy’s first crack at solo rucking as a Demon produced 106 points last week.
