Round 4 2023 AFL Premiership Season will conclude with a classic rivalry as Geelong take on Hawthorn on Easter Monday.

Unbelievably, the Cats sit at the bottom of the table after three games, but the reigning premiers will enter this clash with the baby Hawks as heavy favourites nonetheless.

Weather

Melbourne – Shower or two, 15 degrees

While the MCG is one of the best draining grounds in the world, up to 4mm of rain is forecast on Monday afternoon, so this game could become slippery. Keep an eye on the radar in the lead-up to the first bounce.

Where To Attack?

Plenty has gone wrong for Geelong on the field so far this year, and one particular point of weakness been their midfield. The Cats are yet to find the right mix in the middle and the young, exuberant Hawks could well exploit that on Monday.

Hawthorn are seriously lacking when it comes to quality key defenders. With just Frost and Sicily to do the heavy lifting, I expect Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins to get on top which would be in line with the trends we have seen this season.

Game Script – Geelong forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Jarman Impey (DS $9,530) – Does this count as a value play? I’m not sure. The fact is, I have no interest in any of the bargain priced players on this slate, so my line-up will consist mostly of mid-price selections. Lining up at half back, Impey has been very consistent so far this season, producing three scores between 69-75. That’s a decent return at this price point, and we know he has a ceiling of 90+.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Rhys Stanley (DS $10,370) Rather than being a massive fan of Stanley as a selection, this is based on him being the best of a bad bunch. Hawthorn’s ruckmen Reeves and Meek have produced awful scoring in a 50/50 ruck share, and Stanley will line-up as a solo ruck on Monday, so I expect him to outscore his rivals by at least 30 points.

Patrick Dangerfield (DS $12,730) Dangerfield has tried hard in his first year as skipper, but it certainly appears as if his age is catching up with him. Regardless, the Cats midfielder has averaged 106 points against Hawthorn over his career, and always has the potential to be a slate winner.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Jeremy Cameron (DS $13,410) has averaged 108 DFS points as a forward in a side that is 3-0… imagine when they start winning! This matchup is a massive smash spot for Cameron, and he probably has one of the top ceilings on the slate. At a salary of $13k, what’s not to love?
