Weather
Melbourne – Showers increasing, 19 degrees.
There’s a few chance that this could be a rain impacted contest, with showers expected to hit in the afternoon and evening. As such, it’s worth monitoring conditions tomorrow afternoon before locking in your outside players and key forwards.
Where To Attack?
We still only have two datasets to work with in 2023, so some stats give a truer reflection of a trend than others. That being said, the total fantasy points conceded stat suggests that Collingwood are going to be a tough team to rack up fantasy points against this season. The Magpies have comfortably conceded the least points, which doesn’t bode well for Tigers players on Friday, especially considering Richmond isn’t a fantasy friendly team to begin with.
We can also target the Tigers in the ruck line this week. Toby Nankervis has conceded 10 points more than the average to opposition rucks and this week Darcy Cameron has the chance to exploit this. Cameron has started the season well and will ruck solo in the absence of Mason Cox. While Cameron may be the #1 option this week, a double ruck stack is in play given Nankervis’ average of 109.
Game Script – Collingwood stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Bobby Hill (DS $7,130)/Ash Johnson (DS $7,080) – There aren’t many bankable value options on this slate, so we will have to get creative. I expect Collingwood to win this game, and they have shown a tendency to score heavily, so I’ll be targeting some cheap Collingwood forwards as salary savers. Hill has made a great start to his time in black and white, averaging 60 in his first two appearances, while Johnson consistently scored between 50-60 last year, which may well be enough in this single-game slate.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jack Ross (DS $9,340) could be the beneficiary of Jacob Hopper’s injury. Like Hopper, Ross is a well-built CBA midfielder, so I struggle to see why Richmond would bring him in if it wasn’t to play a role on the inside. Collingwood have traditionally leaked points to inside mids, meaning Ross could easily hit 80+ points if given the role we desire.
Darcy Cameron (DS $12,510) – As previously mentioned, Cameron should see a bump in scoring with Cox missing for an extended period. Pairing this with the data that backs ruckmen against Richmond, Cameron is almost a no-brainer play at a sub-premium price, especially considering the 109 he put up against Port Adelaide last weekend.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Nick Daicos (DS $15,660) is quickly becoming one of the best players in the league, and it’s hard to see him slowing down without a hard tag every week. Averaging over 115, Daicos is likely to be the top scorer on this slate, the only question is how you fit him into your line-ups given the dearth of value options available.
Tim Taranto (DS $15,560) commands the same price as Daicos on this slate, and for good reason. The ex-GWS recruit has flourished at his new club, scoring 108 and 123 in the first two weeks. Given his key role as Richmond’s extractor, I fully expect this level of scoring to continue, starting with Friday night. Collingwood have been notorious for shipping huge scores to midfielders, can Taranto take advantage of this?
