Round 24 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season gives us our final five game Super Saturday slate of the season. We kick things off with potential for fantasy gold as Hawthorn host Fremantle at the MCG, then we go to Tasmania where North Melbourne will be trying to hold onto pick one against Gold Coast. The twilight game will see Brisbane trying to hold onto second spot at home against St Kilda, before we get a dead rubber between West Coast and Adelaide at Optus Stadium, and Geelong trying to put the final knife in the Western Bulldogs season

Draftstars have put up a $60,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Where To Attack?

AFL Data Tools

Plenty of options to target up back, with St Kilda continuing to concede enormous amounts of points to defenders. This has remained all season and, as you can see with the last five games still being as high as anyone, the tactic simply has not dropped off. The sneaky team to target is Gold Coast who have been giving up the second most points to the top three scoring backs over the last five weeks.

AFL Data

We have the top five teams on this slate for attacking in the midfield, giving us options galore. Four of the five have been a lot more stingy at this position in the last five weeks, however I would still feel comfortable against any side in these matchups. The sneaky team I will look to attack on this slate is Fremantle who are travelling to the MCG to face a team that is firing to end the season in Hawthorn.

AFL Data

North Melbourne and West Coast are both on this slate and have been the best options to attack with forwards all season. No surprise that they are finishing bottom two and both still require losses to try and secure the number one pick. Targetting the Eagles this week does come with a small caveat of the fact they are farewelling two of their all time greats at home and have a relatively full squad playing in what has been a rare occurrence in 2023.

Game Script – Brisbane backs / Gold Coast inside midfielders / Adelaide forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Toby McLean ($8,230) will finally get another turn to close out the season as the Bulldogs put up one last fight to claim a finals berth. We saw a similar story last season where Toby was brought into an elimination final after not getting a game all season and he notched up 100 fantasy points. This week the Bulldogs will be without Jack Macrae and Bailey Smith, which should open up opportunity for McLean to play his more natural role up on the ball. In a similar role in the VFL he has posted 167, 112, 118 and 145 from his last four games.

Hayden Crozier ($7,490) also returns for the Bulldogs and will slide straight into the backline where he already posted a 102 point performance this season. There isn’t anything matchup wise to hold your hat on with this play, rather it is simply priced too cheap for his role and fantasy capability.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Tarryn Thomas ($11,920) will continue to rack up his time through the midfield, which has seen him attending from 60-70% of North’s centre bounces in recent weeks. Last game saw him take full advantage of this from a fantasy perspective, posting a season high 105 fantasy points. This week North face the Gold Coast Suns down at Blundstone Arena in what is a total dead rubber, which should lead to some big fantasy scores.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Harry Sheezel ($14,900) is another who will take advantage of this type of matchup. North will not have usual half back contributors in Jack Ziebell and Luke McDonald, which will leave most of the duties to the rising star favourite Harry Sheezel. The Suns have been giving up an enormous amount of points to defenders in recent weeks and North consistently rack the ball up in the backline down at Blundstone Arena.

Reilly O’Brien ($13,260) draws the third easiest ruck matchup in the league this season and you can expect him to monster young Bailey Williams. Earlier in the season O’Brien posted 37 hit outs against the Eagles, but just didn’t quite support this with the work around the ground to knock out a huge score. The hitouts will certainly be there again this time round, which means we have a very high floor and the opportunity to hit a ceiling score of 120+.
