Port Adelaide will host GWS with both sides looking to cement their spots among the Premiership contenders, while the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda will also be keen to secure another four points.

Precipitation is expected across the country on Sunday, with both Launceston and Adelaide likely to receive rain which could impact our fantasy selections. Keep this in mind when selecting lineups, as contested players are likely to thrive over outside runners if the conditions become wet.

Where To Attack?

We always stack defenders against St Kilda, but is there another option this weekend? The data shows that the Western Bulldogs have actually conceded the most points to backs over the last five weeks, and Hawthorn have several tasty options headlined by renowned fantasy seagull James Sicily. As such, both Richmond and Hawthorn defenders are right in play on Sunday, although the promise of a dry game in Melbourne makes options from the former more appealing.

Port Adelaide have been the team to target with rucks in 2023, and it’s hard to see that changing this weekend considering the news that the Power will take on the Giants without a recognised ruckman. Jeremy Finlayson will likely take on the bulk of the ruck duties, leaving Kieren Briggs with a massive opportunity to produce a huge score.

VALUE PLAYS

Marlion Pickett (DS $6,710) has been in average form over the last few weeks, but his salary has plummeted to near-rookie status. At under $7k, Pickett is a proven player who has scored 80+ DFS points three times this season, along with a score of 71 just one month ago. As such, the risk vs reward equation is very much in Pickett’s favour here.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Sebastian Ross (DS $9,470) is another maligned senior player who is in my sights this week, despite mediocre performances across the season. Ross has averaged 70 points this campaign, way down on previous efforts, but at just over $9k he still has a 100-point ceiling and should see some midfield time this week with Hunter Clark out of the side.

Nick Vlastuin (DS $12,650) is exactly the type of player who thrives against St Kilda – a distributing intercept defender. Despite averaging just 82 over the year, Vlastuin scored one of his three tons against the Saints (102) and should be able to benefit from St Kilda’s defensive style of play, racking up the cheap kicks and marks freely.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Kieren Briggs (DS $14,330) – Briggs has been outstanding in his first season as a solo ruckman, averaging 97 points with five tons to his name. After a dip in form, the big man has gone 130 and 114 in his last two and this week faces a ruck-less Port Adelaide line-up that has conceded the most points to opposition rucks over the course of the year. As such, Briggs is a no-brainer.  

Tom Liberatore (DS $15,710) has been one of the Bulldogs best this season, with a low score of 109 from his last four. This is very much a must-win for the Dogs, and with Bontempelli likely to receive attention from Conor Nash, Liberatore will be the main man in the middle as Footscray push for a finals berth. In addition, the chance of some rain should only benefit Libba, who loves tackling and winning the hard ball.
