Round 22 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season offers a huge five game Super Saturday slate to meet our daily fantasy needs!

Things get underway with Sydney hosting Gold Coast at the SCG and both sides fighting to keep the very slim hope of a finals spot alive this season. Essendon will look to get a huge percentage booster against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium and Brisbane will host Adelaide at the Gabba as they look to improve their position towards the top of the table. Come night time we get the western derby between Fremantle and West Coast, which is just a game for pride at this point and the blockbuster of the day is Carlton and Melbourne squaring off at the MCG with huge implications for their finals positions.

Draftstars have put up a $60,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Weather

Melbourne – Showers, 15 degrees.

Brisbane – Sunny, 27 degrees.

Sydney – Becoming cloudy, 21 degrees.

Perth - Partly cloudy, 19 degrees.

Perfect weather conditions for football everywhere on Saturday, bar Melbourne. This won’t impact the Essendon vs North Melbourne game at Marvel as the roof will be closed. For the Carlton vs Melbourne contest at the MCG, we could see some showers during the game, so keep an eye on the forecast. It isn't a significnat amount of rain forecast but keep those conditions in mind if you roster anyone from that matchup.

Where To Attack?

AFL Data Tools

Surprisingly, there isn’t an obvious target for backs on this five-game slate. Essendon have tightened up significantly in recent weeks, the Kangaroos are always an option to attack at every position every week, and looking to target Carlton with premium backs is also in play.

Take your pick of the midfield / forward stack on this slate. Will you be loading up on the Fremantle Dockers against West Coast, or Essendon against North Melbourne? Both the Eagles and the Kangaroos have been somewhat tougher in recent weeks than for the majority of the season, but as we approach the end of the season, I think we will see a few more floggings as these sides start looking ahead to the off season.

A sneaky contrarian play is to stack up the Eagles midfielders against the Dockers who have given up the fourth most points in the league to midfielder this year.

Game Script – North Melbourne backs, Fremantle midfielders and forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Josh Corbett ($6,040) / Karl Worner ($6,000)Fremantle have the best matchup on the slate and are also offering two players who are at the absolute minimum in pricing. Expect Karl Worner to be the most popular of the cheap plays drawing a user friendly role across the back line for the Dockers. Worner has averaged around 90 points per game in a similar role in the WAFL this season, but will have far greater competition for the ball in the senior side.

Corbett will likely be a greater point of difference play, averaging just 36 points per game this season. He has been able to hit the scoreboard in the past, however, averaging 56 points per game in 14 games during the 2021 season for the Gold Coast. This is an elite matchup for forwards against the Eagles.

Elijah Hewett ($7,750) / Luke Edwards ($8,140)... another two similar plays on offer here. Both Hewett and Edwards have shown capability to 10x their current prices in recent games and continue to get opportunity through he midfield with the Eagles currently depleted squad.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Zac Fisher ($10,190) was inserted into the backline last week for the Blues to cover for the absence of Mitch McGovern and keep Docherty in the midfield. The result was he played one of the best games of his career racking up 32 touches and 108 fantasy points. His price has jumped as a result, but he should keep the role down back and with that he still offers plenty of upside at this price point.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Luke Jackson ($14,810) will back up his massive career high score of 149 fantasy points last week with what has been one of the easier matchups in the league for ruckman against West Coast. While Bailey Williams has tightened things up in recent weeks, the Eagles have still give up 93 points per game to the opposition's number one ruckman this season. This number grows significantly when you include all rucks.

AFL Data Tools

Jack Ziebel ($13,770) is back from the dead as he looks to play out his career in a role across half back. He lit up the scoreboard for 138 fantasy points last week and this week draws what has been one of the best matchups in the league for high fantasy scoring defenders this year in the Bombers. His price is still at a reasonable spot for the output he has provided when playing in the back line.
