Round 22 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season kicks off with a classic Friday night blockbuster with Collingwood hosting Geelong at the MCG. Collingwood have just shown their first sign of weakness all season dropping two straight games, while Geelong are sitting just outside the finals in 9th place making all games a must-win at this point.

This is one of the harder matchups you will find to break down by the numbers. Neither team has conceded much from a fantasy perspective and on the flip side, neither side has a style that accumulates the football either. One small chink in the armour is that the Magpies give up above average points to the opposition's top accumulating defenders at 89 points per player each game for the top three scoring backs.

VALUE PLAYS

Beau McCreery ($8,210) attended 30% of the Magpies centre bounces last week, with Nick Daicos now out for a number of weeks Collingwood will be required to fill in his midfield time and as they have shown throughout the year it will typically be via a combination of players. Even a small run on the inside is enough to try and eek out a scoring bump from a value player in this single game slate where pricing will be extremely tight. 

It is also worth noting that Steele Sidebottom is also out, and McCreery will likely push up onto the wing at times to cover that position.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Taylor Adams ($12,330) is another player that I would expect to see a boost to his centre bounce attendances and midfield time with Nic Daicos out of the lineup. Playing more of a hybrid mid/forward role this season, he did see things pick up to around 50% for two straight games to cover injury, which resulted in Adams posting back to back 100 point games. 

Rhys Stanley ($11,460)… both Geelong and Collingwood have made things relatively difficult in the ruck this season allowing below average scores for their opposition's number one ruckman. That said, I do like Stanley in this matchup at the cheaper price and given the fact he has been given the freedom to operate solo with Mark Blicavs out and last week, in admittedly a much easier matchup, delivered with a 105 point game.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Tom Stewart ($15,070) has been running hot with 7 games from his last 10 going over 100 points and the larger ground at the MCG should suit his accumulation game nicely. The Magpies have been conceding points to defenders over the last 10 games and have given up above league average to the top three scoring backs, which brings premium defenders into play. I will be looking to stack Stewart up with value Geelong defender.
