Where To Attack?

AFL Data Tools

The Western Bulldogs continue to be an elite matchup for backs when it comes to fantasy scoring. This trend has been there for years and it has grown throughout the 2023 season with them conceding the second most points in the league to the position and the most points by far over the last five weeks.

AFL Data Tools

While the Tigers have only just given up more than league average this season to midfielders, they do concede 103 points per game to the top three scorers at the position. This plays right into the Bulldogs hands as they have been the hardest team for midfielders to score against all season and they are extremely top heavy with premium players at this position.

Game Script – Richmond backs, Western Bulldogs midfielders and forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Cody Weightman ($8,970) has had a great season as a small forward kicking at least one goal in each of his last ten games. This matchup should be a ripper for him with the Tigers giving up points to forwards over the last 10 weeks and the Bulldogs over 2 goal favourites. Look for the Tigers key backs to lock down on Naughton and Ugle-Hagan while Cody gets free. He has shown singificnat upside this season, especially at this price with a 108 point game and a 99 point game from his last six contests.

Jack Riewoldt ($8,120) this feels risky as Jack has looked like he has one foot in the grave all season. However, the Western Bulldogs have always had issues with key forwards and he is still the number one target for the Tigers. He posted an 80 point game three weeks ago indicating he can still hit that 10x mark at this price point and two weeks back against the Hawks let a big fantasy score slip by kicking 1 goal 3 behinds. If you would prefer to save some cash with this play, Noah Cumberland is a cheaper option to spend up further elsewhere.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Bailey Smith ($12,490) is priced nicely in what should be a dominant game for the Bulldogs midfield. He racked up 114 points two weeks ago and I will be looking to stack up the Bulldogs through the middle on this slate. The Tigers concede above average numbers for uncontested marks and possessions, which should open things up for Smith as he pushes up the ground on the flanks and wings.

Jayden Short ($13,860) returns with the expectation of playing in defense, which is a role he has been a monster fantasy scorer in this season. This is an absolutely elite matchup for defenders as noted above with the Western Bulldogs conceding the second most points in the league to the position this season.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Tim English ($17,220) is priced right up there, but he is worth it on this single game slate. The Tigers have brought back Toby Nankervis to play a duo ruck role with Ivan Soldo. The Tigers have been one of the best matchups in the league this season for rucks, particularly when Nankervis is in the lineup. They have given up 92 points per game to the opposition's number one ruckman and English racked up a massive 145 points against them earlier in the season.
