AFL Fantasy 2023: Round 20 Collingwood vs Carlton
Round 20 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season delivers an old school Victorian classic as the leagues two biggest rivals square off against each other at the MCG. Collingwood will host Carlton in what is an absolutely critical game for the Blues finals hopes. Carlton are currently sitting in 9th place, equal on wins with the 8th placed Geelong. Collingwood, meanwhile, have opened up a two-game lead at the top of the table.

Weather
Melbourne - Showers easing, 18 degrees.
There are some showers expected in the morning this Friday, however with the forecast for a sunny afternoon the MCG should be in perfect condition by the Friday night start time.
Where To Attack?
Both Collingwood and Carlton are in the bottom five for fantasy points conceded in 2023 and neither team has presented any clear options for targeting. This is more evident when we look at the stats for each side and both Carlton and Collingwood have been in the top handful of teams for possessions accumulated. This typically starves the opposition of the ball. The one area that is worth considering is the fact that Collingwood have been conceding a high number of uncontested possessions and marks, so stacking up some of the Blues backs and wings is certainly in play on this slate.
Game Script – Carlton backs/wings, Collingwood forwards
VALUE PLAYS
Caleb Marchbank ($6,000) will make his senior debut for 2023 and on this slate there is next to nothing on offer value wise. As a result Marchbank almost comes into play by default. That said, he has shown in the past ability to put up fantasy scores that would be a positive return in this price range. He averaged 56 fantasy points in 2019, 54 in 2018 and a healthy 69 in 2017. This should be a positive matchup for players relying on uncontested marks and possessions, so I would look to get some salary relief by stacking Marchbank alongside another Blues back.
Lachie Fogarty ($8,900) is another player who makes his living off uncontested football. As noted above with the Magpies conceding greater numbers of uncontested possessions relative to contested, Fogarty comes into play on this slate. His last four games have been modestly impressive for a player in this price range with a 66, 70, 67 and 87, all of which are likely to keep you in contention on this single game slate.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jordan De Goey ($13,280) offers a solid two-pronged approach to scoring in this matchup. He's consistently leading the Magpies in centre bounces over the last three rounds while also going forward to get an opportunity to hit the scoreboard in a game where the Magpies are favoured.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Nic Newman ($14,190) has been in a nice patch of form for the last three weeks posting 93, 108 and 108. He stands out as a player that will benefit from the fact that Collingwood give up uncontested marks and possessions and will be my "go to" premium in my Blues stacks, unless I can afford Docherty.
Adam Cerra ($15,580) returns to the line-up after a week off to freshen up and has consistently been the top scorer for the Blues through the midfield this season. Averaging just under 100 points per game he plays both inside, 60-70% of the centre bounces, and racks up possessions on the outside. This combination will perfectly suit this matchup. Earlier in the season, Cerra racked up 119 fantasy points aganist the Magpies, the second most in the game behind Docherty.
