Weather
Canberra – Morning frost. Partly cloudy, 13 degrees.
Melbourne – Possible shower, 14 degrees.
Cool conditions are forecast for both Canberra and Melbourne on Sunday, but noteworthy levels of rain are unlikely, making it a perfect day for football. As such, weather needn’t be among consideration for DFS players.
Where To Attack?
Over the last five rounds North Melbourne have taken the mantle of leakiest fantasy team in the league, conceding an averaging of 1726 points per game. Only the lowly West Coast come close over that period, so with this in mind it makes sense to stack St Kilda players on this slate.
The only area where you might consider fading Saints players for their North Melbourne opponents is down back, where St Kilda have given up bucketloads of points all season. Intercepting defenders have fared especially well against the Saints, who are currently without key forward target Max King.
Game Script – St Kilda stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Harry Schoenberg (DS $7,790) has been basically unsighted as senior level this year, after falling down the Adelaide midfield pecking order. However, with Rory Laird out of the side this week the young midfielder has been recalled to play a key role in the guts. Schoenberg has shown the ability to score 100+ in this position previously, so he is a relatively low risk pick at under $8k.
Ben McKay (DS $8,710) is exactly the kind of player who should thrive against the Saints this week. Marks are the main avenue to points for the Kangaroos defender, and St Kilda have been allowing opposition talls to play kick-to-kick all year. With three scores of 75+ in 2023, I can see McKay putting in a season-best performance this weekend.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Mason Wood (DS $11,880) – After a hot start to season 2023, Wood’s form has faded in line with the decline of his team. Nevertheless, the Saints linkman has averaged nearly 87 across the year and has three 89+ scores over the last month. In a favourable matchup against his former team, I can see Wood rebounding for a timely ton.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Rowan Marshall (DS $16,540) – Marshall has thrived as St Kilda’s #1 ruck this year, averaging 112 DFS points. This week he comes up against Tristan Xerri, who has been a relatively easy matchup, so a ceiling score could be on offer. Also, Sunday’s game is being played at Marvel Stadium, a venue that Marshall has historically thrived at.
Jack Steele (DS $15,020) has showed shades of his best form in recent weeks, notching up scores of 106 and 146 over the last fortnight. While it’s a bumpy road back from injury for the Saints star, it looks like he is moving freely now and ready to attack the final phase of the year. North are a great matchup for opposition mids, so Steele could be set to explode again.
