AFL Fantasy 2023: Round 18 Saturday
Round 18 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season brings us another massive five games on this Super Saturday to dive into. We kick things off in the afternoon with the ladder leaders Collingwood hosting Fremantle at the MCG. Then Gold Coast host St Kilda as the Saints try to hold onto their finals spot with a win on the road. Carlton host second placed Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium in the late afternoon game with the Blues clinging to just a scrap of hope of making up for last season’s disappointment with a finals berth. Then at night we have two exciting games with Adelaide hosting GWS and two top eight sides in Geelong and Essendon squaring off down at GMHBA Stadium.

Weather
Melbourne - Cloudy, high chance of showers. 13 degrees.
Gold Coast - Partly cloudy, 23 degrees.
Adelaide - Cloudy, high chance of showers. 14 degrees.
Geelong - Cloudy, high chance of showers. 13 degrees.
A few showers around Victoria and Adelaide tomorrow, but hopefully nothing too heavy, which means conditions should be fine to play football from a fantasy perspective. As always keep an eye on the forecasts closer the bounce of the first game.
Where To Attack?
Another week, another round of stacking up the Saints opponents. As we can see St Kilda continue to give up a massive amount of points to backs this season due to the way Ross Lyon has them structured. They are conceding over 12 points per game above the league average to defenders, and 8 points per player more than the second highest team. Speaking of the second highest team, Essendon are also playing on this slate and Geelong present an alternate option to stack up backs, especially down at GMHBA Stadium.
We can also stack up the midfielders against the Saints, and I love this week that Gold Coast are favoured against St Kilda, playing at home under a new coach. An alternate option to attacking the Saints through the midfield is to stack up the Magpies midfielders. The Magpies are over 40 point favourites at the MCG against the Dockers who have given up the fourth most points in the league to midfielders this season.
Game Script – Gold Coast backs and midfielders
(Alternate option – Geelong backs, Collingwood midfielders and forwards)
VALUE PLAYS
Mason Cox ($8,500) will assume the ruck duties for the Magpies with Darcy Cameron out of the game. Earlier this year Cox showed massive upside in a similar role where he posted 129 points against the GWS Giants. Now this is a much more difficult matchup against the Docker combo of Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who have given up the third lowest amount of fantasy points to rucks this season, however at this price point Cox is almost a lock and load play no matter the matchup.
Sam Collins ($7,840) is a nice value option for the Gold Coast back stacks. As noted above the Saints have been giving up an avalanche of fantasy points to backs, and the biggest beneficiaries have often been the key defenders. Collins is basement bargain cheap and posted 86 fantasy points against the Saints earlier in the year.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Brandon Ellis ($11,450) is an option for a point of difference on this slate given his performance and this awkward price point. We all know Ellis has huge upside and this is the perfect matchup with the Saints giving up uncontested possessions across half back and along the wing. I also like the fact that Brayden Fiorini has been dropped, which should open up more uncontested possessions for Ellis.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Nick Daicos ($16,940) continues his sensational second season, as he looks almost certain to secure the 2023 Brownlow Medal now. Averaging a ridiculous 113 points per game and 127 points from his last three matches, I love this matchup for him against the Dockers who have given up the fourth most points through the middle this season. On a five game slate, there is always plenty of value to spend up and Daicos looks to have a floor of 110 points if he does not draw a tag.
Mitch Duncan ($14,450) is back and flaunting that massive upside he was known for in his prime. He has posted two 120+ point games from his last three outings and as always I love him down at GMHBA Stadium. The added benefit is the Bombers have been giving up plenty of uncontested possessions across half back and on the wings this season, which plays right into Duncan’s strengths.
