Weather
Melbourne – Wind easing. Partly cloudy, 15 degrees.
There is next to no chance of rain on Friday night, with windy conditions set to greet players and fans alike at the MCG. As such, select your lineups with freedom.
Where To Attack?
Given the performance of these two teams in 2023, it’s no surprise that there are very few clear fantasy avenues to target.
With that being said, both sides have conceded plenty of points to defenders in recent weeks, ranking third and second over the last five weeks, respectively. That leaves us with a decision, which defensive unit will get on top in this encounter? It’s tough to predict, but I fancy the Lions to win this game and control the ball down back.
VALUE PLAYS
Jacob Van Rooyen (DS $7,240) comes back into the side with the added responsibility of playing as the second ruck in the absence of Brodie Grundy. While it is a big ask of a young player, it should boost JVR’s output, pushing his score towards 60-70 if all goes well.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Harris Andrews (DS $10,900) – Backs from both sides should reign supreme on Friday, and I expect Andrews to be a beneficiary of this trend. Brisbane’s leader down back has been in terrific form, with scores of 110 and 99 in his last three matches, so the price is definitely right here if he can match or beat those outputs.
Darcy Wilmot (DS $9,900) – Wilmot has grown into his second season in the AFL system, averaging 58 DFS points. That headline average isn’t overly impressive, but Wilmot hasn’t gone below 75 in the last three weeks. Furthermore, before last week Melbourne scored 30 behinds in a fortnight which bodes well for Wilmot as a kick-in taker.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Max Gawn (DS $14,040) – Big Max has had to settle with splitting his ruck time this year, making way for Brodie Grundy to share the duties. However, this week Grundy has been dropped and Gawn will have the ruck role to himself. This role has been Gawn’s bread and butter for years, seeing him average massive numbers. While scores of 80-90 have become the norm this year, Gawn could turn back the clock for a 120+ on Friday.
Lachie Neale (DS $16,440) has been at his best over the last fortnight, producing two near-130 DFS scores. While Melbourne have traditionally been a tough opponent to score against for midfielders, Clayton Oliver is missing and Christian Petracca is spending more time forward, which presents an opportunity for Neale to rack up big numbers in this massive clash.
