AFL Fantasy 2023: Round 17 Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood
This Friday we get a blockbuster Melbourne clash for Round 17 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season as the Western Bulldogs host Collingwood at Marvel Stadium. Collingwood are only hanging on to first place by percentage now, while the Western Bulldogs are in a three way tie for 4th, 5th and 6th place with 9 wins. This means both teams will be desperate to get the win as finals are now rapidly approaching.

Weather
Melbourne - Partly cloudy, 15 degrees.
The beauty of Marvel Stadium is that conditions will be absolutely perfect regardless of the weather! Let’s play.
Where To Attack?
The Bulldogs structure has consistently conceded points to defenders in recent years and this has continued in 2023 with them giving up almost 2 points per player above league average every week. The Magpies are certainly not a team that over possesses the football but in this matchup I lean to stacking up their defenders.
Another trend that has held consistent is the Bulldogs giving up fantasy points to forwards. Historically this has been specifically to the key forwards given their lack of talls to matchup. The Magpies go into the game as favourites and I will be looking to stack up the Magpies forwards, particularly the value options.
Game Script – Collingwood backs and forwards
VALUE PLAYS
Ash Johnson ($6,750) This slate is incredibly difficult to find value plays as you would expect for a single slate game between two very competitive sides. So I will look to the Magpies forwards, particularly a key forward, as they have typically given the Bulldogs trouble in the past. As noted above, the Bulldogs are giving up an above average amount of points to opposition forwards and the Magpies are slightly favoured in this game.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Isaac Quaynor ($10,710) has found a great patch of form in recent games, not going lower than 74 points from the last five contests, including a three game patch of 87+ points. For a mid priced play on this slate you can expect that to likely be sufficient in this game and I love stacking up the Magpies backs given the Bulldogs have consistently conceded above average points to defenders in recent years.
Darcy Cameron ($12,450) draws the best matchup in the league for a ruckman against Tim English who has given up 102 points per game to the opposition’s number one ruckman. There is some concern that Cameron splits so much time with Cox, and I don’t mind playing Cox either as well as a forward or as the ruck to save some dollars. Despite splitting time, Cameron has still shown plenty of upside with three games of 96 or better from his last four matches.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Tom Mitchell ($14,650) has been an absolute work horse as the common inside midfielder for the Magpies this season. He has posted 100+ points in 6 of his last 7 games and while I lean more to the Bulldogs midfielders in this matchup given how dominant they are year in year out when it comes to fantasy scoring, Mitchell at the $14k price point is the one Magpie I will look to roster.
Adam Treloar ($15,810) has been dominant fantasy wise across the last month with a low score of 110 points. He is getting plenty of midfield time for a side that can mix up their rotations consistently and I love him in this matchup as I expect the Bulldogs to dominate the ball through the midfield like they typically do, while the Magpies will look to transition it quickly.
