AFL Fantasy 2023: Round 16 Sydney vs Geelong
Round 16 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season brings us a rematch of last year’s Grand Final with Sydney and Geelong set to do battle at the SCG.
Incredibly, both sides sit outside the top eight at this point of the current season, so it shapes up as a must win encounter for two very proud football clubs.
Draftstars have put up a $60,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Weather
Sydney – Sunny, 18 degrees.
What a perfect evening for football. Dry, clear conditions will be present for this Friday night clash, posing no risk to fantasy outputs.
Where To Attack?
There are very few clear trends to target in this matchup, so it may come down to which team you think will get on top. However, Geelong have given up the third most total fantasy points to their opposition over the last five weeks, and, with Sydney entering this match as the home side, that trend may be worth exploiting again on Friday.
Beyond this, there are no specific positions on the field where either side leaks more points than the other.
Game Script – Sydney stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Robbie Fox (DS $8,840) has struggled for consistency this season, starting some matches as the substitute, and averaging just 62 DFS points. However, the Sydney defender has posted two 80+ scores with a high of 96, and he should be free to rack up the marks with Jeremy Cameron missing from Geelong’s lineup.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Angus Sheldrick (DS $10,910) has burst onto the scene over the last month, repaying Sydney’s faith. The highly regarded draftee has scored 79 points or more in each of his last three matches, with a 111 last week against the lowly Eagles. Furthermore, with Warner out of the side, Sheldrick should retain a high CBA percentage.
Tanner Bruhn (DS $11,170) – After entering this season as a hyped-up season-long fantasy selection, Bruhn quickly fell into obscurity after failing to perform in early matches. Since then, he has really stepped up in Dangerfield’s absence, producing scores of 100 and 93 as a true CBA midfielder. While Danger is back this week, I expect Bruhn to remain in the guts and score well.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Tom Stewart (DS $14,420) – Sydney has been a bogey team at times for Stewart, who has been tagged by Ryan Clarke on multiple occasions. This week, however, Clarke has not been selected, so Stewart should have plenty of room to accumulate intercept marks and prove himself to be the most reliable of the premiums in this contest.
Callum Mills (DS $12,900) is a risky selection coming off a tricky injury, but his reduced price is enough to tempt me. The Swans star was eased into it last week against West Coast, subbed off after three strong quarters, and he should be better for the run heading into Friday’s match. It’s well known that Mills has a ceiling of 130+, so it’s impossible to turn him down at sub-$13k.
