Weather
Melbourne – Cloudy, 14 degrees.
Alice Springs – Shower or two, 8 degrees.
Perth – Sunny, 19 degrees.
Cool temperatures are expected across the country on Sunday, with Alice Springs set for a chilly maximum of nine degrees. Showers are also forecast for the red centre, so it may be wise to target the other games where conditions will be clear.
Where To Attack?
There is no other way to say this, West Coast are an absolute embarrassment to the league at the moment. Last week’s 171-point mauling at the hands of Sydney was officially rock bottom for the Eagles, and it doesn’t get any easier this week with the Saints coming to town. Unsurprisingly, West Coast are conceding fantasy points right across the ground, except in defence where the ball rarely ventures.
On the topic of conceding points to defenders, that is something that St Kilda have done plenty of this season. Playing a defensive style under Ross Lyon, the Saints have been happy to sit back and let their opposition chip the ball around the back, resulting in huge scores for defenders. The ball is likely to spend plenty of time in West Coast’s backline this week, so the Eagles backs could score well.
Game Script – St Kilda stacks
VALUE PLAYS
Lachie Fogarty (DS $6,640) has been in the football wilderness for a while now, but he produced a 49 on return to the senior side before the bye. Historically, Fogarty’s scores have ranged from 40-100, so he’s a decent punt at nearly basement price considering his solid floor and enticing ceiling. The matchup is decent too, as the Blues are favourites for this one.
Anthony Caminiti (DS $7,760) – Caminiti has been solid in his first season at the top level, holding down a spot consistently in St Kilda’s forward line. While not a huge fantasy scorer, Caminiti will enjoy the league’s best matchup for key forwards this weekend (see the efforts of Taylor Walker, Logan McDonald etc.). As such, I can see him hitting 70+ on Sunday.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jack Higgins (DS $10,910) – The equation is simple with Higgins – when he kicks goals, he scores well in DFS. Higgins has gone above 90 three times this season, all occurring when he has kicked three or more goals. This game is likely to be a demolition, so I’m comfortable backing Higgins to kick a bag and therefore push the fantasy ton.
Jack Scrimshaw (DS $10,810) has been missing from the Hawks side for much of the season, but he produced his best effort of the year last week with a 108 against Gold Coast. In James Sicily’s absence, it looks like Scrimshaw has taken on some of the distributing duties from the backline, which bodes well for his fantasy scoring. At just under $11k, this feels like a relatively low-risk selection given the upside.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jack Sinclair (DS $16,180) – Sinclair has been ultra-impressive in recent weeks, hitting 100 in four of his last five outings. The explosive runner has an elevated ceiling this season, with scores of 141, 130 and 119, so it’s only fair that we expect him to match that against the lowly Eagles on the fast deck at Optus.
