Where To Attack?

AFL Data Tools

As soon as you see St Kilda on the slate you know where we are headed for our rostering. They continue to lead the league in points conceded to defenders by a wide margin, although it worth noting that this has been coming down over the last five weeks compared to the abnormal figures we were seeing during the first stages of the season. That said, even at the lower amount it is still good enough for top 3 in the league. Lock and load Lions back stacks.

AFL Data Tools

The midfield has been an area that has not dropped off. The Saints continue to give up the most points in the league to opposition midfielders as their structure encourages plenty of uncontested marks and possessions. Stacking up the Lions defenders along with a selection of their midfielders will be a popular play on this slate.

Game Script – Brisbane backs and midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Keidan Coleman ($9,890) I will go back to the well here on Coleman despite only posting a 68 point game last week. Once again the Lions will be without Rich and this week Coleman draws the best matchup in the league for backs against the Saints. The conditions will be perfect for outside play and I will be stacking up the Lions defenders.

Harris Andrews ($9,110) Following suit here, Andrews has shown the capability to rack up fantasy points over his career in certain games and even in 2023 has posted a season high of 108 points to go with two other 93+ point games and a 78 point game two weeks ago. The Saints have been especially leaky to key defenders and this seems like a matchup made in heaven. I do think you can look to go even cheaper at the back positions if you would like to spend up further elsewhere, with both Brandon Starcevich and Ryan Lester in the $7k price range.

Marcus Windhager ($9,560) came through last week with a 85 point game and while his price point has increased there is no reason he won’t deliver a similar performance. As we saw last year, when he is given a role in the middle it often resulted in fantasy output. Last week he attended 81% of the Saints centre bounces and played a defensive role against Shai Bolton. This week it will likely be either Neale or Dunkley that draw Windhager and given the fact that Seb Ross has been dropped it is very unlikely that we see a decrease in Windhager’s midfield time.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Hugh McCluggage ($12,670) comes back into the side and looks well positioned for an upside fantasy game. It has been a slow season for McCluggage in 2023 as his role continues to be moved around with the influx of new midfielders at the Lions. However there will be an opportunity for him to see an increase to his usual 30% of centre bounces and beyond that I love him on the wing in this matchup. As noted at the top the Saints have been giving up the most points in the league to midfielders and that often comes in the form of uncontested marks and possessions.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Brad Crouch ($14,980) is just flat out too cheap for his form right now. Coming off three straight scores of 109 points or better, he has assumed the role of number one inside mid for the Saints as Steele continues to struggle with an injury niggle. The Lions have been giving up above average points to midfielders this season and Crouch loves playing at home at Marval Stadium.
