Weather

Sydney – Mostly sunny, 19 degrees.

Perth – Showers, 16 degrees.

Cool conditions are forecast on both sides of the country on Saturday, but it’s shaping up as a perfect day for football in Sydney. With showers expected in Perth, inside midfielders and ruckmen may be best placed to thrive.

Where To Attack?

It’s no secret that DFS players will be flocking to select Sydney players today. West Coast are comfortably the worst team in the competition and as such they concede boatloads of fantasy points right across the park. Add to that the fact that this game will be played on Sydney turf and there is no doubt that the Swans are in a smash spot today.

While Sydney stacks will be popular, Fremantle defenders should be considered. Essendon have conceded the most points to defenders in the league over the last five weeks, and the Dockers have history of chipping the ball around their backline. Potential wet weather may dampen this strategy.

Game Script – Sydney stacks

VALUE PLAYS

Andrew Phillips (DS $7,360) will enjoy increased opportunity this week, playing as the sole ruck with Sam Draper out of the side. While the veteran has hardly set the world on fire this year, any solo ruck at a basement price must be considered, and there isn’t much value available on this slate.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Brennan Cox (DS $9,290)As previously mentioned, targeting defenders against the Bombers is a great ploy and Cox appears to be a solid option this week. Cox has averaged nearly 70 this season in defence, with several scores over 80, and he took four kick-outs last weekend which bodes well for his future fantasy output.

Bailey J Williams (DS $12,440) has been given an extended run in the ruck in the absence of Nic Naitanui, which has accelerated his development. The emerging big man has produced three 100+ scores this season and comes up against an ageing Tom Hickey this week, which suggests he can hit the ton again. Furthermore, the small dimensions of the SCG normally means plenty of ruck contests.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Chad Warner (DS $14,660) After breaking out last season, Warner has had a consistent follow-up campaign in 2023, averaging 93 DFS points. The Swans should get a hold of the Eagles, and Warner loves to get on the end of attacking forays through powerful forward runs, so he should test out his ceiling of 120+ on Saturday.

Errol Gulden (DS $15,860) commands a high price in Draftstars this weekend, but I’m backing him to reward coaches who back him in. The classy midfielder is a true premium now, with an average of 105, and just over a month ago he produced back-to-back scores of 161 and 153. That kind of score breaks a slate, and there is no better opportunity for him to reproduce those numbers than against the bottom of the ladder Eagles at home.
