Marvel Stadium

We finish off AFL Round 14 with two matches this Sunday. First up, Carlton will host the Gold Coast at the MCG. Another loss here and heads will have to start rolling at the Blues as their fans will want blood! That’s followed by the Bulldogs and Kangaroos at Marvel Stadium.

Both games offer some interesting fantasy options with a couple of teams that like to rack up possessions and plenty of value choices on offer.

Draftstars have offered us another $60,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as some $750,000 AFL Star Qualifiers and a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Melbourne - Mostly sunny, 14 degrees.

A couple of days of clear skies in Melbourne should provide ideal conditions at the MCG, while the roof will ensure there’s nothing to worry about at Marvel. Game on!

Where To Attack?

AFL Data Tools

As you’d expect from a team that’s lost 11 in a row and sitting second-last on the ladder, the Kangaroos have leaked a lot of fantasy points across most positions this season. Bulldogs stacks are going to be a popular play on the fast track of Marvel Stadium.

AFL Data Tools

For a different angle, the Gold Coast have leaked possession through the midfield at different times during the season, and particularly in the last five matches. Carlton’s mids love to accumulate possession so correlating the Blues together through the middle looks a solid play.

AFL Data Tools

One area the Kangaroos have not leaked fantasy points is in the ruck where veteran Todd Goldstein has done an excellent job. The Roos are the stingiest in the entire league in points conceded to ruckmen, so keep that in mind before you want to dive into Tim English and his $17k+ salary!

Game Script – Western Bulldogs stacks, Carlton mids

VALUE PLAYS

Laitham Vandermeer ($8,610) pumped out a nice 74 points at near minimum salary last week in a good return to the Bulldogs side. Vandermeer picked up the half-back runner and distributor role with recent injuries to Jason Johannisen and Ed Richards. It’s a great role and even though his price has jumped, he should be able to pump out another handy score against the lowly Roos.

MItch Hannan ($6,260) looks a good spot to save some salary on this slate. Ignore his sub-affected scores this season, Hannan has typically averaged around 50 in recent years, and comes into the side off a nice 5-goal haul in the VFL last week. Hannan will slot into the small forward slot and up against one of the weakest sides in the competition, he should get plenty of opportunity to reach that 10x value mark.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Hugh Greenwood ($10,040) is an interesting mid-priced option. After returning to the Roos side during the season, he pumped out valuable scores of 75, 87 and 114, before a 49 in just 41% game time before copping a concussion. George Wardlaw, Tarryn Thomas and Liam Shiels have all increased their CBA’s in the meantime, which does muddy the waters a little, but Greenwood isn’t likely to spend time anywhere else, so he should provide a good return at the price.

AFL Data Tools

Jy Simpkin ($12,490) also comes back into the Roos side after a concussion absence and gets a nice salary drop from his injury-affected score. It’s been a frustrating year for the young skipper and he’ll want to get back to his form from late 2022 where he was consistently pumping out tons. If he can do that, he’s at a good price to have on your side.

For the thrill seekers, you could also consider Patrick Cripps ($12,300) at around the same price. The difference is that Cripps’ drop in price is more form related than injury, but his best is far better than that price!

PREMIUM PLAYS

Jackson Macrae ($14,880) has been in hot form recently and this looks a great spot for him to cash in again. It's taken him a little bit to adjust to his midfield/forward balance, but recent form suggests that he's back to his best and he won't mind plenty of cheap ball against the Roos. All of the Bulldogs are in play, but Macrae gets the nod as he's a little cheaper than Caleb Daniel ($14,970), Adam Treloar ($15,050), Tom Liberatore ($15,240) and Marcus Bontempelli ($16,430). You can also play Macrae in the forward line which is a bonus.

The other consideration is that Liam Shiels has been tagging recently so who does he go to here? Hard to see him keeping up with Bont, so my guess would be Libba. Either way, Macrae should be left to roam free.

Adam Cerra ($14,820) is worth mentioning as a premium option for the Blues. With Walsh and Cripps struggling to reach their optimal output, Cerra is one who has consistently stood up this season. Averaging nearly 100, with three 130+ scores earlier in the year, Cerra is capable of pumping out a massive score. The Gold Coast match up is a favourable one, and while Walsh and Cripps get the attention of the opposition, Cerra is able to fly under the radar a little and accumulate at will.

Jack Ziebell ($14,540) is in play today, mostly due to the omission of Aaron Hall from the Kangaroos. Ziebell will get every cheap possession possible and the Bulldogs are happy to allow that. The ball will be down his end all day so you can expect Ziebell to cash in!
