Round 13 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season rolls on to Sunday when four teams in desperate need of wins will take to the park.

A showdown between two bitter rivals – Carlton and Essendon – will headline the action, with the Kangaroos hosting GWS down in Tassie.

Weather

Hobart – Partly cloudy, 17 degrees.

Melbourne – Partly cloudy, 16 degrees.

Winter is starting to set in across Australia now, with cold weather sweeping in. However, rain is unlikely to impact this slate, so feel free to pick outside players with confidence.

Where To Attack?

Despite putting up more competitive performances in recent weeks, North Melbourne have given up bulk fantasy points to their opponents all year. I expect the game against GWS to be a tight one with neither side getting on top, but there should still be plenty of DFS points available for the experienced Giants stars.

Essendon have given up the most points to defenders over the last five weeks, conceding an average of 75 points per player. Carlton love to play it slow out of the backline and chip it around, so I can see the Blues defenders racking up the touches on Sunday.

Game Script – Carlton backs, GWS midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Josh Fahey (DS $6,000) hasn’t set the world on fire in his two sub appearances, scoring a total of 23 DFS points. However, the highly touted draftee was producing huge numbers in the VFL and when given a full game at AFL level could definitely score well. Add the fact that this game is against North, and Fahey could be the best value pick on the slate.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Mitch McGovern (DS $11,270)Essendon are giving up points to backs and I expect McGovern to take advantage of that this week. The Carlton interceptor is fit and in form, with scores of 87 and 95 in the last fortnight, and if this game goes to script he could be in line for a 100+ performance at a great price point.

Jye Caldwell (DS $12,030) has been given an extended run in the guts in the absence of Parish and Shiel, thriving with two 100+ scores in the last three weeks. Carlton have been a decent matchup for midfielders in recent weeks, so there is no reason why Caldwell can’t hit three figures again on Sunday.

Finn Callaghan (DS $11,450) Like Caldwell, Callaghan has benefited from some injuries to GWS midfielders, gaining CBAs as a result. Callaghan, a preseason hype magnet, has attended 44% of CBAs in each of his last two matches, producing scores of 85 and 75. North Melbourne are a great matchup, so is 90+ on the cards?

PREMIUM PLAYS

Toby Greene (DS $13,730) has led GWS admirably this season, averaging nearly 89 DFS points. This week the Giants take on North, who have no obvious matchup for Greene, which makes the skipper a prime candidate for a ceiling game on Sunday.
