With Round 13 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season extended across five days, this week's Super Saturday AFL slate features three games to dig into. The day opens up with Brisbane travelling down to the MCG to face Hawthorn and attempt to consolidate their position in the top four on the AFL ladder. Adelaide will then look to get their finals chase back on track, hosting West Coast at the Adelaide Oval. Finally, we close the day out Saturday night at Optus Stadium as Fremantle host the Tigers.

Weather

Melbourne – Partly cloudy, 16 degrees.

Adelaide – Partly cloudy, chance of showers, 17 degrees.

Perth – High chance of showers, 19 degrees.

The conditions are perfect in Melbourne and Adelaide on Saturday. But beware of the Fremantle vs Richmond game as Perth is expecting to be hit with a thunderstorm throught he afternoon and evening with a forecast of up to 15mm rain. I would be cautious about rostering outside players in this matchup as well as any key position players. Rather, focus on inside midiflers or potenitally rucks who will benefit from a high number of stoppages.

Where To Attack?

This is really no secret at this point and it is a similar message every time the Eagles are on the slate in 2023. West Coast are sitting dead last on the ladder with just a single win on the season and continue to add to their injury list each week. As a result, they have been getting destroyed through the midfield and up forward as they sport a lowly percentage of 54%. This week in Adelaide, the Crows are over 10 goal favourites to beat them so the most obvious play of the day will be stacking up Adelaide, particularly through the middle and up forward.

Game Script – Adelaide midfielders and forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Deven Robertson ($6,810) will get an opportunity at senior level after an absolute dominant season at VFL level in 2023. Robertson has put together a run of seven games in which he has posted just one fantasy score under 104 points and last week he racked up a ridiculous 144 fantasy points on the back of an eye popping 21 tackles. His role at the top level will always be the question when it comes to fantasy scoring, but as we saw last year in the finals series when he was tagging and playing on a wing he can certainly score with a 70 point semi final and a 96 point game in the preliminary final.

Riley Thilthorpe ($8,420) will be one of my first forward stack choices for the Crows on this slate. He has a season high 92 fantasy points this season and another 70 point game, which shows he can certainly return value at this price point. I think you can get him as a little bit of a point of difference while most players will lean towards Taylor Walker as their tall in the first instance. Everyone knows the Eagles give up points to forwards, but key forwards they are particularly susceptible to, particularly with their top two key backs out. Additionally, Thilthorpe will pinch hit in the ruck where the Eagles have also struggled this season giving up the fifth most points this year.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Luke Jackson ($12,720) has taken over as the number one ruckman in recent weeks with Sean Darcy out to injury. As a result, he has posted the following scores from his last four games – 117, 103, 66 and 108. I love this matchup for him against Toby Nankervis with the Tigers giving up 95 points per game to the opposition’s number one ruckman this year. Another advantage to this play is the possibility of a wet weather, which should lead to a massive number of stoppages and more scoring opportunities for rucks.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Rory Laird ($16,200) posted his first sub 100 point game in 8 games last week and I am happy to say he will bounce back this week against the Eagles. The stats are all outlined above and Laird is far less likely to gain hard attention from West Coast than Jordan Dawson is, so I will start my premiums in the Crows stacks with him.

Ben Keays ($13,670) has been moved back into the midfield in the past two weeks as the Crows have started moving away from the kids a touch in order to get the season back on track. Over the past two games he has attended over 70% of the centre bounces and returned scores of 123 and 109 fantasy points. I love this matchup for him as he gets forward and hits the scoreboard as well as gets the opportunity to rack up points through the midfield. If he was to get this level of midfield time for an entire season the price point would be closer to the $15k mark.
