Where To Attack?

It is no surprise that there are not going to be many avenues to attack when you have two of the leagues top three teams facing off in a single game slate of daily fantasy. Melbourne and Collingwood are both two of the stingiest teams in the league for conceding fantasy points giving up the fourth and third fewest respectively.

AFL Data Tools

One area to consider attacking is through the backline where Melbourne continue to give up above league average amounts, a trend that is consistent with last season. Both the Magpies and the Demons give up one of the highest amount of points in the league to the top three scoring backs at around 89 points per player.

Game Script – Collingwood forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Tom Sparrow ($9,920) will continue to get plenty of opportunity through the midfield in this matchup. Over the last two games without Clayton Oliver in the lineup he has attended over 80% of the Demons centre bounces. This resulted in a 92 point performance in the first game, but last week he backed it up with just a 46 point game. That said, on a single game slate with no real value, I will lock in this play with the midfield opportunity and proven ability to return almost 10x in value at the price point every day of the week.

AFL Data Tools

Mason Cox ($9,760) is continuing to see plenty of ruck opporuinity even with Darcy Cameron back in the lineup and this should continue this week given the Demons' difficult setup. While this isn’t an ideal matchup for Cox, I like the play more so as a ruck than forward to take advantage of the salary savings and spend it in more attractive positions. Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy are cannibalising each others scores and not producing enough when playing together to justify their price tags and I certainly don’t want to spend almost $13k on Cameron against that two-headed monster. Cox has shown the ability to return value at this price point when he gets opportunity in the ruck posting a 94-point game last week with 21 hit outs, and a 129-point game four weeks ago (without Cameron in the line-up).

MID PRICED PLAYS

Jack Crisp ($11,280) / Taylor Adams ($11,270) both offer similar opportunities to Tom Sparrow in this matchup with the absence of Jordan De Goey from the line up. De Goey had been leading the team in centre bounces this season attending over 80% per game since Round 6. These will likely be allocated to Taylor Adams and/or Jack Crisp. The last time De Goey missed a game was in Round 5 and we saw Taylor Adams spike his centre bounces to almost 80% while Crisp saw a boost to 43%.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Christian Petracca ($15,870) has been doing everything to lift the Demons while Clayton Oliver has been out of the lineup. Posting 116 and 118 fantasy points in his last two games, I will continue to go back to rostering him while Oliver is out and his price point is still a nicely placed at under $16,000.
