Round 11 of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season kicks off this Friday night with a crucial game between two sides with finals aspirations who have so far had a disappointing season. The 12th placed Sydney Swans will host the 11th placed Carlton Blues at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After last year's Grand Final loss, the Swans came into this season aiming to go one step further, while Carlton were expecting to play finals after narrowly missing in 2022. Things have not gone as planned for either side so far, and both are sitting one win behind the top eight, making this game a must-win!

Weather

Sydney - High chance of showers. 18 degrees.

There could be a bit of rain throughout the day but it is unlikely to significantly impact the game. That said, cool and blustery conditions with still a bit of dampness on the ground at a place like the SCG will likely create for a contested game that suits inside midifelders and tacklers.

Where To Attack?

Beyond the ruck, these teams really don’t concede high fantasy scores to any position. Carlton tend to control the ball and rack up possessions, while Sydney force a contested style of game, particularly at the SCG which results in conceding the highest number of contested possessions in the league this year.

VALUE PLAYS

Sam Wicks ($6,130) has been called up to the Swans side for the first time this season. Wicks has capability to not just return value at this price point over his career but even provide tournament winning scores. In 2021 he averaged 57 fantasy points per game from 21 matches, which in itself would likely be enough value return at a near minimum price point on a single game slate. But he also flashed upside with a massive 124 point game and two games over 80 fantasy points. Last season he struggled to find a place in the best 22 and had the sub role affecting his scores, but early in the season, showed ability to go over 10x value at this price point with three scores of 64+ from his first five games.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Tom Hickey ($10,950) returns to sure up the Swans ruck position this week. Both the Blues and the Swans have been beaten in the ruck consistently this year, however with this being just the second game Hickey has played all season they should be a lot harder at this position. Hickey averaged 82 points per game in 2021 and then after an injury interrupted season in 2022 closed the season with 5 games of 84+ fantasy scores from his last 8 games.

Isaac Heeney ($11,470) is a nice point of difference play on this slate given the price range. Heeney has the capability to go over the 100 point mark and Carlton have been susceptible to non-key forwards over the last few years as their key backs lock down on the key forwards. Heeney has averaged 90 fantasy points against the Blues throughout his career.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Patrick Cripps ($13,250) remains at a price point that can be taken advantage of in large daily fantasy tournaments. We all know what his upside is, and even this season, has flashed the 120+ fantasy point range. The size of the ground and the weather conditions will suit Cripps' inside and contested game style and as noted above, the Swans lead the league for conceding contested possessions.

Luke Parker ($14,460) has really started to hit his straps in recent weeks, particularly with Mills playing more down back and now being out of the line-up completely. Parker has posted 112+ fantasy points in three of the last four matches and is the most consistent feature in the Swans midfield, attending over 80% of their centre bounces.
