Weather

Melbourne – Partly cloudy, 15 degrees.

Perth – Sunny, 19 degrees.

Darwin – Mostly sunny, 31 degrees.

Saturday is looking clear for all the AFL venues on Saturday, with no rain forecast. With that being said, matches in Darwin are often played in dewy conditions so that game is unlikely to be a clean affair.

Where To Attack?

There are plenty of DFS data trends that we can look to use to our advantage on Saturday.

West Coast have well and truly hit rock bottom after two 100+ point losses in the last month. During that time the Eagles have conceded a huge number of DFS points to opposition teams, and with Essendon entering this encounter as 40-point favourites, that trend is likely to continue.

The Saints have also been a great team to target across the ground this season, especially with opposition backs. Hawthorn have a number of ball-hungry defenders who love to rack up the touches, so they will be popular picks on Saturday.

Game Script – Essendon and Hawthorn stacks

VALUE PLAYS

James Harmes (DS $8,120) It’s been a tough year from Harmes thus far, with the tough midfielder rarely featuring in Melbourne’s starting 22 for a variety of reasons. Nevertheless, Harmes should get the chance to play a key midfield role against Fremantle in Clayton Oliver’s absence, and he has shown he is capable of scoring 100+ in the past.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Sam Draper (DS $10,720) will take on the Eagles as Essendon’s solo ruck, with Andrew Phillips missing from the side. West Coast have conceded the most points to ruckmen this year and Draper has scored 80+ three times including one ton. At this price, an 85+ return would be a tick.

Tanner Bruhn (DS $9,820) has stepped into a prominent midfield role for Geelong in recent weeks, as the Cats endeavour to cover for missing talent in the middle. With this newfound responsibility, Bruhn’s scoring has massively improved, the youngster producing scores of 93 and 69 in the last fortnight. In a home revenge game against his former side, I can see Tanner matching last week’s effort to go close to 10x value.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Zach Merrett (DS $16,810) is relishing the lack of Darcy Parish in Essendon’s midfield, having scored 120 and 158 in recent weeks. The Dons midfield is looking thin again this weekend, and against the cellar dwelling Eagles Merrett should have an absolutely field day without a tagger following him around.

James Sicily (DS $14,980) is in great form and draws the best matchup in the league for defenders this week. The Hawks skipper has scored consecutive tons for the first time all year over the last fortnight and, with plenty of cheap kicks available against a deep Saints defence, I expect him to make in a hat-trick this weekend.
