Weather

Launceston – Partly cloudy, 19 degrees.

Melbourne – Showers easing, 15 degrees.

Sydney – Partly cloudy, 19 degrees.

Perfect conditions for this slate, with both Adelaide and Melbourne expecting warm, sunny weather. Outside runners are definitely in play today, while contested bulls may struggle.

Where To Attack?

St Kilda have shipped a huge number of points to backs all season and I don’t expect that to change on Sunday. Given the Saints’ game style, which revolves around sitting behind the ball in a defensive manner, opposition teams have relished in chipping the ball around the back resulting in huge scores for ball hungry defenders.

Looking elsewhere, forwards look primed to feast in the bottom of the table clash between Hawthorn and West Coast. Both teams have leaked points to opposition attackers this year, so it comes down to who you think will get on top in this contest. Since I am backing the Hawks, I expect their forwards to do plenty of damage.

Game Script – GWS backs, Hawthorn forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Jacob Koschitzke (DS $6,100)There aren’t many alluring value options on this slate, but that could make the search for value even more thrilling. Take Koschitzke for example, who will be a low owned play that could break the slate. The young Hawks forward has averaged just 36 in his three appearances this season, but this week he faces a dreadful Eagles backline that should give him enough time and space to kick a few goals. If he can manage that, then a 60+ DFS score is on the cards.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Mitch Lewis (DS $9,070) By the same token, Lewis should have a day out in a rare Hawks win on Sunday. After a long injury layoff, the Hawks spearhead produced a 94 immediately on return against the Bulldogs before backing that up with a 69 against the Dockers. Taking those scores into account, it’s reasonable to expect 80+ here.

Finn Callaghan (DS $11,210) was a season-long fantasy darling during preseason, but he’s proven to be more useful as a DFS selection in 2023. The young wingman has averaged 74 for the Giants, but he has upped his game in recent weeks with scores of 98 and 91. The Saints give away the most uncontested ball in the league, Callaghan’s specialty, so he should score well again.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Rowan Marshall (DS $16,010) has rediscovered his best form in 2023, averaging nearly 110 DFS points as a solo ruck. ‘RoMo’ has particularly thrived against lesser ruckmen and this week he faces Kieran Briggs who is playing his first game of the season. As such, only injury will stop Marshall from going 110+ here.

Sam Walsh (DS $16,090) Carlton’s running machine has effortlessly found his feet since returning from injury, averaging 118 DFS points in five appearances. It’s no secret that this is a massive game for the Blues, so Walsh will be working as hard as ever to get his team over the line, and I foresee a CBA bump in the absence of George Hewett.
