Weather
Brisbane – Sunny, 22 degrees.
Melbourne – Cloudy, high chance of showers, 14 degrees.
Ballarat – Cloudy, high chance of showers, 11 degrees.
Perth - Mostly sunny, 23 degrees.
Brisbane and Perth will be absolutely perfect conditions for football on this Saturday’s slate. It is Victoria that may pose some rain risk, however I would not be too concerned about it impacting the games as the game at MARS Stadiuam should be over before any rain comes in and the MCG drains so well, even if the maxmum forecast of 5mm rain comes, in it wouldn’t be a huge factor in the game.
Where To Attack?
There are plenty of DFS data trends that we can look to use to our advantage on Saturday.
North Melbourne are sitting 16th on the ladder with 2 wins and are giving up the second most fantasy points overall this season. So essentially you can target them at any position and Sydney stacks will certainly be in play. But more on North in a second. This slate also offers us the Western Bulldogs and Essendon as targets for backs. The Bulldogs have given up the third most points to defenders this year and this is a trend that continues from last season where they conceded the second most points to the position. Essendon are right behind them giving up the fourth most, but give up slightly more to the premium backs.
When I said more on North Melbourne in a second, well this is it. North have been getting smashed by forwards giving up the most points in the league this season to the position at 70 points per player. This week they are over 6 goal underdogs against Sydney in a game with a huge 172.5 game total, so stack up the Swans forwards and watch you teams rocket to the top of the standings.
Game Script – Adelaide backs, Sydney stacks – midfielders and forwards
VALUE PLAYS
George Wardlaw ($6,000) The number four pick in the draft for North Melbourne will debut this week after a delayed start to the year through injury. Coming in to support North’s midfield that has been ravaged by injury we can expect him to get plenty of opportunity through the middle in his debut. Wardlaw was prolific at finding the football in juniors and has posted three games from his five matches in the VFL with fantasy scores of 90+.
Lance Franklin ($7,400) has had a miserable season thus far for the Swans and looks ready to retire. That said, he will be bursting at the seams for a fill up and this game will likely give him that opportunity. As 6 goal favourites I expect the ball to be in the Swans forward line for the majority of the contest and despite his poor form, Franklin has already shown he can return value at this price point this year posting a 78 fantasy point game three games ago. I love stacking up the Swans forwards on this line up and there are other value options to consider in the way of Hayden McLean if you are nervous about Franklin’s form.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Chayce Jones ($9,590) is finally having his break out season in 2023. A high draft pick he looked like he was heading towards being a total bust and ready to be out of the league before things started to click in 2023. As noted above, this is an elite matchup for defenders against the Bulldogs who have given up the third most points in the league to the position this year. Jones has posted an 83, 90 and 108 during his last 5 games and all would be a great return at this $9k price point.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Errol Gulden ($16,230) has been an absolute monster over his last three games posting 153, 161 and 116. He is getting more midfield time now with Callum Mills out of the lineup and North Melbourne are an elite matchup for both midfielders and forwards, which are the two roles he will spend the entire game playing. I will be stacking up the Swans players on this slate and Gulden will be one of the first premiums I look forward in setting my teams.
Zach Merrett ($14,980) is priced nicely under $15k and I love this spot for him. Merrett has averaged 106 points per game over his career against the Tigers and 104 points per game at the MCG. This game historically has had great fantasy returns and Merrett typically fills up. From his last 12 games at the MCG he has posted just two under 100 points (an 88 point game and a 90 point game). Merrett is spending plenty of time in the midfield at the moment attending over 60% of the Bombers centre bounces in each of the last two weeks.
