AFL Fantasy 2023 Finals: Carlton vs Sydney
The MCG will once again be packed out on Friday night when Carlton host Sydney in a highly anticipated AFL Elimination Final.
The Blues have not appeared in a finals fixture since 2013, so players and fans alike will be itching to make a big statement against the Swans, who will be determined after falling short in the big dance last year.
Draftstars have put up a $75,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Weather
Melbourne – Showers. Windy, 12 degrees.
Just like last night, wet and wild conditions are forecast for Melbourne on Friday, although most of the rain is expected to clear by the first bounce. With that said, inside players are probably most likely to thrive in this one.
Where To Attack?
Given that only the best teams appear in finals, it’s no surprise that there are very few fantasy trends to exploit at this point of the year.
As such, game script plays a far bigger role in determining the top fantasy scorers. I expect Carlton to gain the ascendency in the middle on Friday night and give their forwards plenty of opportunities, which in turn should see the Sydney defenders outperform their Carlton counterparts. The season data also supports this, with the Swans giving up the least points to defenders.
Game Script – Inside midfielders
VALUE PLAYS
Dane Rampe (DS $8,030) – It’s all about finding points of difference on single game slates, and I can see Rampe being a great unique option. An experienced campaigner with solid fantasy history, Rampe should benefit from the inclusion of Melican, setting him up as the third key defender. With more freedom to gather the ball, a solid score is on offer and Rampe has a decent floor regardless.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Nick Blakey (DS $10,260) should benefit the advantage that Sydney defenders have on this slate, especially given that he’s the main distributor alongside Lloyd. In the Round 11 clash between these two teams Blakey was the second top scorer with 114 points, and he will have plenty of room to run free on the MCG.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Errol Gulden (DS $17,680) is the cream on this slate, priced way above the rest at nearly $18k. It’s no surprise though, as Errol has averaged 113 points across the campaign with a score of 101 the last time these two teams met. Carlton have developed a reputation for giving up big numbers to opposition wingmen, so Gulden is primed for a big outing in this final.
Patrick Cripps (DS $14,050) finally gets the chance to play his first final after a career full of near misses and disappointment. The Blues skipper will be fired up and well rested after an extra week off, so I expect him to be firing on all cylinders in front of a raucous home crowd. Notably, Cripps has scored 100+ in each of his last three games at home.
