The GABBA will be heaving on Saturday evening, with Brisbane and Carlton set to play off for the final spot in the 2023 AFL Grand Final.

Lions fans are all too familiar with Preliminary Final disappointment, but all signs are pointing to the end of a hoodoo that has dogged Brisbane for years. However, a determined Blues side stands in the way, full of belief after gutsy wins over Sydney and Melbourne.

Draftstars have put up a $75,000 Guaranteed Main Contest, as well as a wide variety of other lower stakes options with big prize pools.

Weather

Brisbane – Partly cloudy, 23 degrees.

Perfect conditions are expected for Saturday’s game, with warm and dry weather forecast. Games played under lights in Brisbane can often become slippery as a result of evening dew, but the earlier start time here should produce a cleaner contest.

Where To Attack?

There are very few trends to target on this slate, which is no surprise as both teams have performed exceptionally throughout the campaign.

With that being said, there is a discrepancy in overall stat accumulation, with Carlton tending to possess the ball more than their opposition. Compared to the Lions, the Blues generate more uncontested possessions, although they may find it difficult to replicate this style on the confines of the GABBA in a high stakes final.

Game Script – Lions forwards

VALUE PLAYS

Marc Pittonet (DS $8,750)While there are plenty of cut-price options available on this slate, there are very few that I am interested in. Enter Marc Pittonet, who lines up as the cheapest ruckman on this slate. The Blues big man has produced poor returns over the last couple of months, but he should shoulder the majority of the ruck load and managed 87 points the last time he played Brisbane, courtesy of 48 hitouts.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Zac Bailey (DS $10,590) presents great value in this one, coming in at under $11k. Like Pittonet, the dynamic Lion produced his best form during the early and middle parts of the season, however it is well known that he is capable of 100+ ceiling scores. This is especially true when Brisbane win, which I believe in likely on Saturday. Bailey is an ever better proposition when you consider that will likely see 20% CBA attendance, which is a great route to extra points.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Josh Dunkley (DS $15,760) is the most expensive player on this slate, despite slightly underperforming against Port Adelaide. This game is likely to be a battle between two fierce, contest hungry midfields, and Dunkley thrives in these situations, as shown by his score of 172 against the Blues earlier in the year. Carlton’s bull, Patrick Cripps, is sore and beaten up after two bruising finals, so I expect Dunkley to get on top when the matchup inevitably eventuates.

Adam Cerra (DS $14,160) is my pick of the Carlton midfielders, with Cripps nursing niggles and Hewett drifting out of the rotation. Before going down with injury late in the campaign, Cerra was putting together a career best season, including three consecutive 130+ scores against St Kilda, West Coast and Brisbane. Cerra’s season average of 96 ranks him up there with Walsh and Neale, who are both priced well over $15k, making Cerra great value here.
