Where to Attack?

Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.

This is a really challenging matchup to work through as both Richmond and Brisbane are in the bottom six for fantasy points conceded this season and really give up lower than average across each position. The one area they have both been slightly susceptible to is their oppositions top scoring midfielders. As per our data tools above they are both giving up over 1 point above league average to the top three scoring midfielders, which indicates premium players could be the option in this matchup.

Despite conceding low fantasy scores, the Tigers have given up the 6th most disposals this season. The Lions are not a high possession side, but it may give them a slight edge in topping the fantasy scores in this single game matchup.

Game Script –  Brisbane premium midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Deven Robertson ($7,790) comes into the side after a long spell in the reserves. With both Cameron Rayner and Jarryd Lyons out of the side due to suspension and injury the Lions will need to replace plenty of midfield time and as you can see by our centre bounce attendance tool they go deep through the middle. Robertson was attending from 20-40% of their centre bounces during the games he played this season and should get opportunity at a value price point in this matchup.

Ben Miller ($6,310) has taken over pinch hitting in the ruck over the past three games as the Tigers chose to go without Ivan Soldo late in the season. This opportunity resulted in a little boost to his fantasy scores averaging just under 60 fantasy points from his last three games. That might not seem like a big score but on a single game finals slate between two sides that an extremely stingy with fantasy scoring a return around the 60 point mark at this price point would be a huge win.

MID-PRICE PLAY

Dustin Martin ($11,320) in finals I love to revert to the veterans who have been there and done it before. Martin has not had his best season but returning for a big game like this I am happy to take the risk that he will rise to the moment at this midrange price point. If you think the Lions will get over the top I love going with Charlie Cameron as a mid price point of difference as he has shown capability to get on top of the Tigers at times in recent matchups.

PREMIUM PLAY

Dion Prestia ($13,860) has hit one of the best patches of form he has seen in recent years to close out the season. His body looks to be fit and ready for a huge finals campaign and he has posted 4 games over 100 fantasy points from his last five matches. As noted above the one area to attack both of these teams is via high scoring midfielders and Prestia is the top player in this regard for the Tigers.

Lachie Neale ($15,610) should be at his absolute best as the finals kick off and I love him anytime he isn’t facing a hard tag. The Tigers historically have gone head to head with opposition midfielders and I don’t expect any major changes in this matchup. Neale has had some of his biggest games against the Tigers and he was the Lions top scorer when the two sides met this season.
