Brisbane vs Collingwood at the GABBA (BRI -30.5, 171.5)

Weather

Could be the odd shower and I expect conditions to be slightly dewy at night time given the temperature, which is usually the case in Brisbane. As a such contested players may gain a slight edge. Let’s play some fantasy!

Where to Attack?

Collingwood have been giving up slightly above average (2 points per player) to forwards so far this year. This is obviously across a small sample size, but it fits in nicely with the fact that Brisbane are over 5 goal favourites in this matchups. It is no surprise that more scoring and big wins typically leads to higher fantasy scoring, particularly for forwards. Brisbane forward line stacks will be a popular play on this slate.

This stat is worth highlighting, as it is one that I choose to ignore based on the small sample size. Grundy has typically not conceded a high number of fantasy points and as we saw last week where he got back into form, this number has drastically reduced in from round 3 to round 4.

Game Script – Brisbane stacks (midfielders and forwards)

VALUE PLAYS

Cam Rayner ($7,260) continues to get opportunities through the midfield this season, despite not translating into big fantasy scores. This season he has consistently seen 30-40% of the Lions centre bounces and if this game blows out as expected, he will likely see more in the 4th quarter when the sting is out of the game. The other part I like for Rayner in this matchup is the time he spends forward, his highest score of the season was against North Melbourne where the Lions won by over 100 points and Rayner posted 62 fantasy points despite kicking 3 behinds. If he can straighten up his kicking an 80 point return could be available in this matchup.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Joe Daniher ($10,840) is an obvious choice for a Brisbane forward as their number one target. He offers over 100 point upside if he can get going and his kicking is on and this could be his breakout matchup of the season. He is averaging 80 fantasy points per game this year and has posted 85 and 94 in their two home wins.

Zac Bailey ($11,150)… at this price point, I think there is a clear choice between Jarrod Berry and Zac Bailey for Brisbane. I lean Bailey in this matchup despite the fact that Berry is getting more entre bounce attendances so far in the season. This is due to the fact that the Lions are expected to win the game quite handily, and Bailey spends a lot of time forward and hits the scoreboard consistently.  In their two wins at home this season he posted 98 and 92, including booting four goals in the latter game.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Brodie Grundy ($13,350) looked to be back to his usual form last week dismantling his former nemesis in Nic Naitanui to the tune of 124 points. Grundy had only been bad by his own personal high standards, but last week was his first game over 100 points this season. This looks to be a solid matchup and at this price point still I can see plenty of Brisbane stacks with Grundy as the only Magpie.

Lachie Neale ($16,940) continues to be the safest Lion midfielder when there is no obvious tagger in line to squash him. Priced in the $16k range I think we can lock in a 110+ point game this week, which in a single entry contest is enough raw points to be an adequate return.
