While none of the three Sunday matches this week promise much in terms of elite AFL competition, there is still plenty for DFS players to get excited about. Essendon will be on a mission to reverse its slow start to the season against Adelaide, while the winner of Hawthorn v St Kilda will go 3-1. Carlton visit Gold Coast to close out the round, can the Blues continue their unbeaten run?

Draftstars have put up $90k in the main contest, as well as a couple of $500k AFL Live Final Qualifier contests. Check out our article here with all the info regarding the AFL Live Event.

Weather

Melbourne

Gold Coast

Weather shouldn’t have an impact on this slate. The sun will be shining in Melbourne and any rain on the Gold Coast will be negligible.

Where to Attack?

All teams have played three matches now and shown their style and method for this year.

Nearly all the teams on this slate have conceded points to defenders, St Kilda leading the way at the top of the rankings for opposition defender points against. Target them here with confidence, although Hawthorn has a backline that tends to share points.

Hawthorn and Gold Coast give away the most points in the competition to midfielders, making this an easy avenue of attack. Both their opponents have strong premium options, so stack away!

Game Script – St Kilda defenders, Carlton mids

VALUE PLAYS

Josh Ward ($7,980)

Although I’ve suggested St Kilda midfield stacks, Ward is tempting as a value option. The first year gun has made a strong impression in his first few games, accumulating the footy with an incredible work rate. He continues to be given opportunity, so should score well.

Archie Perkins ($8,190)

Perkins reportedly had a fantastic preseason and he has certainly showed improvement so far in 2022. In a game that I expect Essendon to win, a few goals could see Perkins push 10x value here.

MID-PRICE PLAYS

Will Day ($11,150)

We want to play Hawthorn defenders, but which should we pick? That’s the question and I have chosen to save salary in recommending Day. A score of 91 in his first game back was impressive and his style of play is fantasy gold.

Jarrod Witts ($12,100)

None of the ruck options are overly attractive in this slate – many teams are rolling with two rucks and the rest of the big men aren’t known scorers. That leaves us with Witts, a solid solo ruck who we know can push the ton.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Jack Sinclair ($13,480)

Sinclair has been picking up touches across the field and making plenty of CBA appearances, giving him the role to feast on Hawthorn’s weaknesses.

Patrick Cripps ($15,090)

Cripps is back to his best form with some of the midfield load taken off his shoulders at Carlton. Gold Coast have nobody big enough to match his physicality and he should get plenty of first use here.
