Perth

There are showers forecast in Melbourne which will impact the outdoor Carlton vs Hawthorn game, while there is a chance of storms in Perth which may turn the derby into a sloppy affair.

Where to Attack?

All teams have played two matches now and given some indication as to their style and method this year. This will be our starting point, while also considering the implications of West Coast playing with a sub-AFL standard team and Fremantle having several stars out.

St Kilda and Richmond have both given up plenty of points to defenders this year, while Freo did the same last year. That gives us plenty of options when considering our backlines and I like the idea of picking players from the teams at Marvel today.

Richmond always allow opposition midfields to run free, and are severely undermanned in this area with the absence of Dustin Martin and Dion Prestia, as well as Kane Lambert. Hawthorn have also be prone to giving up big scores and they face a formidable Carlton midfield today.

Game Script – St Kilda defenders, Carlton mids

VALUE PLAYS

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($6,000)

Wanganeen-Milera showed ample composure and skill on debut, earning the praise of his coach and fans alike. He should be given plenty of opportunity to roam and accumulate the ball under the roof on Sunday, so a 10x value game is possible.

Neil Erasmus ($6,000)

The high draft pick has banged the door down at selection and finally gotten his chances as Fremantle’s midfield looks very bare. Erasmus will get his shot in the centre square and I can see him comfortably outperforming his salary.

MID-PRICE PLAYS

Will Brodie ($11,570)

Brodie continues to pump out strong scores as an inside midfielder and his role will be aided by absence of David Mundy who joins Nat Fyfe on the sidelines. A salary bump also makes Brodie a more attractive play today as he should be less chalky.

Shai Bolton ($9,960)

Bolton is also benefiting from increased opportunity in the midfield, as he fills the void left by Martin and Prestia. The flashy youngster went on some hot runs of form last year and if he flicks the switch on Sunday 100+ is possible.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Jack Sinclair ($13,210)

Sinclair plays both of the roles that get a points bump against Richmond, defence and midfield, picking up touches across the field. With 71% of CBA appearances last week, he should score well here.

Sam Walsh ($14,590)

Walsh was impressive on return, collecting 34 touches on the way to 89 points. You could really go with any of Carlton’s impressive midfield in this matchup, but Walsh is the best value option and the addition of a few marks and perhaps a goal to his stats last week sees him easily go above 100.
