Where to Attack?

Obviously each season is a new year and trends from 2021 aren’t typically going to remain the same, that said with just the two rounds under the belt so far it is still a great starting point to gauge what we can expect heading into this game and the weekend overall.

Whilst the Bulldogs forced their opposition defensive units to chip around the backline regularly, the data doesn't reflect this off the small sample of the first two round. They have given up some of the higher scores through the midfield, allowing for some interesting potential options through the midfield selections for this one-game contest.

Whilst it isn't the strongest trend in the early season data, it is also worth noting the the Dogs are giving up above average numbers through the forward line in their two losses. On the lower end of the forwards scale, the Swans have given up above average scoring to the bottom 3 forwards through their first two rounds.

VALUE PLAYS

Chad Warner ($9,250) found himself out on the street midway through the final quarter last week after Buddy kicked his 1000th goal. After missing the first round due to Medical Protocols, he kicked off his 2022 season with a score of 87 last weekend without impacting the scoreboard. Looks to be a solid selection here where you are likely to need to pay a premium for a decent ruck.

Ed Richards ($7,410) is adjusting to a new defensive role, however may be a solid salary sacrifice play to allow for a premium selection if English and/or Hickey are in your team/s. Didn't impact with tackles last week and has the potential to improve his score in a number of key areas this week under the roof again.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Josh Dunkley ($13,860) is on the higher end of 'mid-priced' however his role in the team and his confidence looked to click late in the action last week at Marvel. After a relatively quiet first three quarters, Dunkley responded with 11 disposals and a couple of shots on goal in the final quarter. A solid forward option here, and my preference at the salary a little less than Heeney and Treloar.

Errol Gulden ($11,140) looks like a tremendous selection as a forward here at a salary just over $11k. Only 4 of his 21 disposals last week came in the forward 50 as he found his way through the midfield at times. Looks a solid selection.

PREMIUM PLAY

Bailey Smith ($15,290) may allow for a more unique team in a single game slate. Coming off a week out of the team with a slight hip issue, Smith had no issues when training this week leading into the game, and with Mills playing a defensive role at times and Macrae averaging 111.5 through two rounds, Smith appeals in a tricky slate.
