Weather

There is a huge flood of rain expected in Perth tomorrow, with up to 20mm forecast throughout the day. By night time it should have eased / stopped, however it could be enough to impact the game. Monitor the conditions up until the first bounce and if the rain coninues consider focusing on rucks and inside midfielders over the outside players who rely on marks for their fantasy scoring.

Where to Attack?

Let's take a closer look at our AFL Data Tools to find any trends that might help us construct winning lineups on Draftstars for this match.

It has been the same story all season when Melbourne are involved… stack their opponents backs. This week will be no different considering the fact that the Dockers love to rack up possessions across their half back line, averaging the second most uncontested possessions in the league this year. The weather could dampen this strategy to a degree, however if the rain has faded come night-time I wouldn’t be deterred from the Fremantle defenders as the top play on the slate.

Game Script –  Fremantle backs

VALUE PLAY

Jake Melksham ($6,000): Value on this single game slate between two of the top established sides is going to be extremely hard to identify. I will be leaning to Melbourne forwards in this matchup as they are the favourites despite playing on the road and the due to the fact that the Demons have arguably the most vaunted defense in the league. Melksham has been in reasonable form for the minimum price over the past two weeks since returning to the side posting a 60 point game and 51 point game. He will be well suited to wet conditions as he loves a tackle (he had 7 two weeks ago), which means he will just need to get on the end of a goal or two to blow through a 10x return at this price point.

MID-PRICE PLAYS

Tom Sparrow ($9,540) has been inching more and more into midfield time as the season progresses. Over the last two rounds, our DFR CBA Data Tool indicates he has attended over 50% of the centre bounces on average and this has been reflected in his scoring posting 78 and 87 fantasy points.

Caleb Serong ($12,860) has not had the fantasy season many where expected after he closed the 2021 year on fire. The slippery conditions should suit his game style as the contested play increases and he should also see a slight boost in opportunity with Fyfe out of the line-up (as will David Mundy).

PREMIUM PLAYS

Hayden Young ($13,800) is looking every bit the player the Dockers were hoping for when they drafted him at pick 7 in the 2019 draft. He is showing tremendous upside playing across the half back for the Dockers posting two ceiling range games from the last six rounds with a 132 and 119. This weeks matchup is the best in the league for his position with the Demons giving up almost 10 points per player above league average to their opponents back.

Clayton Oliver ($16,830) is the best inside midfielder on the slate. He has just two scores under 100 points from the last 10 games and they were a 94 and a 91, which means he cannot totally sink your squad on a single game slate. If the weather conditions remain wet and slippery he should feast on the inside racking up contested possessions and tackles. If you can find enough value to afford him, lock and load.
